Owen Valley came into the game at 14-3 on the season and 7-0 in the WIC, just a half game behind Indian Creek at the top of the league. Owen Valley came in at 6-10 and 4-3 in the WIC. The players to watch in this one was the leading duo for the Sullivan Golden Arrows of senior guard Luke Adams, who will be playing quarterback on the gridiron at the next level, and freshman post Cooper Bock Cooper Bock 6'6" | PF Sullivan | 2026 State IN .
Sullivan came out to a quick start in the game with a couple of jumpers from Adams and a couple of post baskets from Bock as we would have expected. However, Owen Valley responded in a hurry as Derrek Atkinson got a couple of buckets inside, knocked down a triple, and tallied a couple of assists. The Patriots would go on a 15-0 run to turn a 12-4 deficit into a 19-12 lead. Sullivan would end the run with the second three of the quarter by Seth Pirtle. The Patriots would lead 19-15 at the end of one.
In the second quarter, the Golden Arrows came out like they did to start the game, looking to get to the rim. The answer was an 8-0 run in the first two minutes to retake the lead and extend that lead to six. Owen Valley answered with a triple from Caden Gonser, and in the final minute another triple from Rhet Heckman tied the game at 32. Adams dominated the half for Sullivan with 15 points, and Bock added 8. For Owen Valley, Atkinson led with 13, and Heckman added 11.
Sullivan led the turnover battle 7-1 in the first half, but Owen Valley was unconscious from the floor at 6-11 from three and 55% from the floor with assists on 12 of their 13 baskets. The story of the second half would be if they could stay hot coming out of the locker room in the second half.
The answer was an astounding NO. After Carlos Trevino opened the half with a three, Sullivan answered with a 7-0 run as Owen Valley shot just 2-8 to start the quarter. However, Sullivan mistakes were keeping the Patriots in the game with a couple of easy transition buckets. Sullivan would step on the gas in the final minute of the quarter with a pair of triples from Adams and Elijah Gettinger to extend the lead to 10. A three-point play at the buzzer gave the Patriots a little bit of life, but the Golden Arrows led 51-44 after three.
In the fourth quarter, Adams continued his takeover with the first 10 points for the Golden Arrows to stretch the lead to 15. With the big lead, the Golden Arrows would cruise late to a 71-55 win at home.
Luke Adams led all scorers with 34 points in the win. He also added 5 steals. Cooper Bock Cooper Bock 6'6" | PF Sullivan | 2026 State IN dominated the paint with 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists, and Seth Pirtle added 10 points and 6 rebounds. Derrek Atkinson led Owen Valley with a double-double of 20 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 assists. Rhet Heckman added 16 points in the loss.
With the win, Sullivan improved to 15-3 on the season. The Golden Arrows return to the court on Tuesday for a road game at North Central (Farmersburg). Owen Valley drops to 6-11 on the season with their fourth straight loss and sixth in seven games. The Patriots hit the road again on Tuesday for another WIC game at Eastern Greene.
