Lausanne defeated First Assembly Christian School, 64-47, Saturday night to capture this season's TSSAA Division II-A Boys' West Region Tournament Championship.

Here are 3 takeaways from the Lynx's win:

Slow start didn't faze Lausanne

The young Crusaders' offense got going early in the first quarter, starting with back-to-back scores by freshman point guard Cello Jackson, which was followed by a basket from freshman shooting guard MJ Hayes. It was a quick jab thrown by FACS to start the game before the Lynx reeled off eight straight points. Sophomore wing Kris Carroll made back-to-back 3s, but Lausanne quickly responded with two baskets by junior [player_tooltip player_id='1467323' first='Andrew' last='Ford'].

For the entirety of the first quarter plus half of the second quarter, the Lynx answered each made basket by the Crusaders. Lausanne stayed solid on the defensive end, while remaining calm and patient on the offensive end.

Momentum shifter

Late in the first half and for the entirety of the second half, the Lynx made FACS pay for its turnovers and contested shots. Senior forward Jamarcus Powell (10 points) had three monster dunks, with one being a lob from senior point guard Seth Grandberry in transition. Carson Boyle (12 points) even had a monster dunk in transition. Late in the third quarter, Lausanne went on a 7-0 run to build a 42-30 lead. The duo of Grandberry and Powell – along with Jayden Bachelor – were pivotal in shifting the momentum to the Lynx's side that sucked away the Crusaders' pesky effort.

Grandberry was big for Lausanne

Grandberry looks like a different player in his first and only season playing for the Lynx. In Saturday night's win, the senior took quality shots from the perimeter, scored in transition and made the right reads when necessary. Grandberry had 22 points, and FACS didn't have an answer for him. Grandberry's been very important to Lausanne's success this season, and even though it's been for only one year, it's been a happy marriage for both parties.

Grandberry is finally being recognized for the player he is, and the Lynx, who helped Grandberry transition from being a high-volume shooter to an efficient guard, are back on top.

All-West Region Tournament Team

Tristan Fleming (St. George's), Grant Spain (FACS), [player_tooltip player_id='1549097' first='Cello' last='Jackson'] (FACS), Tre Davis (Lausanne), AJ Morman (Sacred Heart), Jayden Bachelor (Lausanne), [player_tooltip player_id='1039198' first='Seth' last='Grandberry'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1495681' first='Jamarcus' last='Powell'] were named to the TSSAA Division II-A Boys' West Region All-Tournament Team. Grandberry and Powell were named co-MVPs.
