#1 Wichita Independent – Conar Harris, 6-foot-3 forward, 2023:
Look out! The Panthers are rolling. It’s hard to pick out a star or an unsung hero for this talented and balanced team. But Harris deserves credit for being a complement to some nice senior guards. He’s a springy finisher around the rim. He is lighting it up with over 40% from deep, averaging 22 points for the fast rising Independent. Harris wasn’t a guy on our radar until lately, but he’s making up for lost time.
#2 TMP – Kade Harris Kade Harris 5'11" | CG Thomas More Prep | 2023 State KS , 5-foot-11 guard, 2023:
TMP will be a very interesting story to follow this year. They were a 3A state team that dropped to 2A this year. They have a talented leader in Dylan Werth Dylan Werth 6'7" | PF Hays-Tmp | 2023 State KS . But they need athleticism and leadership. They look to multisport star Harris to help in that area. The Shrine Bowl-bound running back was an all league honorable mention player a year ago. The Monarchs have played a weird schedule so far this year, but it won’t get any tougher than Free State and Manhattan, which they faced in a December tournament.
#3 Inman – Eli Brunk, 6-foot-4 forward, 2023:
The Teutons bolted to a 5-1 mark before dropping their first game of 2023 to pesky Sterling. They have talent and experience, led by Brunk. He was all league as a junior and brings athletic toughness to the front line. He tossed in 20 in a loss to Moundridge. He’s not really ‘unsung,’ but he deserves some credit for his work.
#4 Ellinwood – Parker Scheck Parker Scheck 6'3" | SF Ellinwood | 2023 State KS , 6-foot-4 forward, 2023:
Britton Dutton Britton Dutton 6'0" | SG Argo Comm | 2023 State KS doesn’t have to do it all alone for the 7-0 Eagles. He’s got a nice, veteran supporting cast led by Scheck, who has played a ton of basketball in his career. He’s averaging 11 points and 5 rebounds. The Eagles will need a big season from him if it’s to finally reach the state tournament.
#6 Moundridge – Logan Churchill Logan Churchill 6'6" | C Moundridge | 2023 State KS , 6-foot-6 forward, 2023:
Moundridge has the type of leadership and playmakers to make a deep run. One thing that could help set them apart is the length and paint play of big man Churchill. Ok, so he’s not really ‘unsung.’ Prep Hoops has loved his game for a long time. He’s a fundamental player with the experience and physique to overcome most opponents on the block. He’s capable of nights like the 22 points, 10 boards and 7 blocks he put up against Moundridge.
