Day 1 of the tournament on Thursday could officially be considered a “guard takeover” of sorts as a lot of combo guards made sure to make their names known to the public and press as they put on some showstopping performances….let’s take a look at the second batch that stood out on Day 1:
TK Lawson- PSAT Panthers (2024 G)
Lawson led his team to victory in a Thursday evening win over a physical, aggressive Colorado Prep team 70-61. TK just could not miss from inside the paint and drove his way to the rim at well and every time the defense fouled him, he made sure they paid for it. He finished the contest with 19 points on 8/10 shooting and 3/7 from the foul line as well as adding in 5 assists and approximately 6 rebounds for a well rounded stat line. Lawson makes a huge impact for this Panthers team off the bench and is respected by his peers for his leadership and vocal ability on the court. TK will continue to make an impact for this PSAT squad in whatever role he is put in as they move further into conference play and will compete with the best competition the SWAIC has to offer.
Christian Jones Christian Jones 5'10" | PG BFL Prep Academy | 2025 WA – PSAT Panthers (2025 G)
Christian shares the featured image of this article along with teammate TK for his outstanding play all throughout the tournament, racking up double digit points in almost every single contest. Christian played especially well in his teams first night victory over Colorado Prep 70-61. Jones finished the game with 16 points on 6/11 shooting and 4/5 from the free throw line, as well as adding a team high 8 assists, showing he was never afraid to be unselfish and make the extra pass. Christian was deadly with his start and stop ability on offense, showing off his quickness and agility to throw defenders off balance and drain the easy pull up jumper. Altogether, it is safe to say the PSAT Panthers play very well as a team together and Jones is a major catalyst for this squad on both ends of the court.
Aliou Diallo- Colorado Prep (2023 G)
Diallo definitely made his presence known for his Colorado squad in their highly contested loss against PSAT on Thursday night. Aliou showed his shiftiness and athleticism driving to the rim against bigger defenders and was quick on his feet on the defensive end as well, notching several steals that converted into fastbreak points. Diallo finished this game with 18 points on 7/15 shooting from the field and showed flashes of great defensive prowess as well. Colorado Prep will look to Diallo to be one of the vocal leaders moving forward as they take on a tough conference in the SWAIC.
Yassin Abdelwahab- Spring Creek Academy (2023 G)
Yassin showcased himself as one of the bigger guards in this tournament well on Thursday, putting his size and strength on display in the first game of the day against Inglewood Prep, which Spring Creek dominated by a score of 72-34. Abdelwahab scored 12 points on 5/6 shooting from the field and 2/2 from the free throw line for the Spartans and made a major different on the offensive end, playing role of facilitator off the bench and helping his team to the victory. Yassin’s vision was also on display, totaling 7 assists in the contest, mostly from teammates cutting to the basket and him knowing where they were at all times. Yassin will continue to play an important role for Spring Creek Academy off the bench, where his coach will make sure to utilize his size effectively.
