One Scotlandville 3-pointer after another Saturday night let the air out of a highly anticipated matchup with visiting Isidore Newman.

The Hornets paired 11 treys, led by Chase Sample's six, with another big night inside by big man [player_tooltip player_id='1475974' first='Dorian' last='Booker'] to begin pulling away from the Greenies in the second quarter and never let up, 71-48.

Chase Sample (5'10" | 2023)

The senior guard missed his two shots from deep in the first quarter, but kept firing and was soon red-hot for six makes in his next seven open looks from the arc. He added a pull-up in the lane to finish with 20 points, a pair of rebounds and an assist. Sample, the son of coach Carlos Sample, and the Hornets' guard group moved the ball well — quickly, confidently and efficiently — and set one another and Booker up for good looks all night.

[player_tooltip player_id='1475974' first='Dorian' last='Booker'] (6'10" | 2023)

The Greenies packed in defensively and managed to deny, or at least delay, the typical dominant start by Scotlandville's big man. But fouls racked up on Newman stars [player_tooltip player_id='1105540' first='Todd' last='Jones'] and [player_tooltip player_id='970120' first='Chris' last='Lockett'], and the Hornets moved the ball well and drained their open 3-pointers. And Booker went on to a typical 26-point, 10-rebound performance.

[player_tooltip player_id='1499023' first='Jamal' last='Drewery'] (5'10" | 2025)

The sophomore point guard actually hit Scotlandville's first 3-pointer and two of its first four to help provide some of the team's early offensive spark until Sample caught fire. Drewery finished with 14 points, five assists, a rebound and a steal and helped burn huge chunks of clock in the fourth quarter handled the ball surely and darting around, through and past Newman's own talented guard group.

John Hubbard (5'7" | 2023)

The speedy senior guard scored four points, dished out nine assists and grabbed three rebounds as he and his teammates appeared to excel in the ball movement and shot selection on which their coach has harped throughout their winter of high-profile matchups.

Czavian Teasett (6'4" | 2023)

The senior forward's shot wasn't as on-target as usual, but he still hit a pair of his six 3-point attempts for seven points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out three assists, including a couple particularly nice feeds to Booker.

[player_tooltip player_id='1277356' first='Chris' last='Leman'] (6'7" | 2024)

The versatile junior forward provided Newman's scoring punch during a mostly even first quarter with his team's first five points and seven of its first nine with a driving, then fading jumper in the lane, then a 3-pointer, then a putback. Leman finished with 15 points on the evening, scoring from all three levels and the foul line. He also finished with three rebounds, an assist and a steal, helped deflect away another pass and contested multiple shots.

[player_tooltip player_id='1130920' first='Canin' last='Jefferson'] (6'0" | 2023)

Particularly as his backcourt mate, Lockett, battled some foul trouble, the senior guard stepped up and led the Greenies with 23 points, five rebounds and an assist. Jefferson didn't shy away from the moment, the Hornets' physical and stingy guard group or the big shot-blocker anchoring the defense in the lane. He added a pair of 3-pointers to his efforts attacking the lane in transition and finding angle and getting there off the dribble in the half-court, including an acrobatic up-and-under Booker and the rim.
