Intensity. Cold-blooded. Hungry. Perpetually unsatisfied. Grit.

Only a sprinkling of players possess these intangibles. Talent is less rare than an unwillingness to lose, regardless of what it takes to prevent the outcome.

[player_tooltip player_id='992497' first='Jaylen' last='Jones'] will not lose. You have to step on his throat to defeat East Nashville Magnet. Only 11 times in the last 4 years did an opponent beat Jaylen and his Jentlemen.

[player_tooltip player_id='992497' first='Jaylen' last='Jones']' high school career record is goofy: 81-11.

[player_tooltip player_id='1406271' first='Jaquan' last='Adkins'] (West Carroll) is the same way. Unfortunately, Adkins is not as quick and as talented as [player_tooltip player_id='992497' first='Jaylen' last='Jones']. His team is not as athletic or deep as East Nashville. Last year, Jaquan and West Carroll won more games (22-5). That team's scoring leader Jalen Anglin averaged 24.6 ppg, while making over 2/3 of his shots! Without Anglin, the War Eagles are struggling mightily.

[player_tooltip player_id='1378602' first='Calvin' last='Goliday'] (Hillwood) is a worker. In 2022, Calvin earned District Player of the Year. He ran his 17u days with Team Brandan Wright (TBW), and made an impression on a couple of college coaches. Still, he is woefully underrecruited considering his talent and height. Goliday scores and then scores again. Despite the fluid nature with which he scores, CG is not just cruising through his games.

[player_tooltip player_id='1261389' first='Tucker' last='Monroe'] surpassed 1,000 career points in the final full week of January. Monroe is an unassuming wing guard, unassuming in appearance only. Monroe's mid-range touch helped him get to this milestone, as did his tenacious play.

[player_tooltip player_id='1263012' first='Jason' last='Burch'] (Green Hill) is one of the best offensive rebounders in the state. Rebounding tends to favor the big boys. Still, colleting rebounds often requires more than size, more than strength. Dennis Rodman made a career out of simply out-thinking and outworking opponents in search of rebounds and he was thin by NBA standards. Burch scratches and claws for rebounds, which helps the Hawks get extra bites of the apple.
