But that didn’t keep others from stepping up and making this an exciting game.
In the first quarter, Gus Salem Gus Salem 6'2" | CG Archbishop Wood | 2023 State PA (6’2 G ‘23) knocked down a couple spot-up threes to put the Vikings ahead. Trying to prevent Devon’s scoring opportunities on backdoor cuts, Wood switched on off-ball screens. However, Lucas Orchard Lucas Orchard 6'4" | SF Devon Prep | 2023 State PA (6’4 W ‘23) was still able to extend advantages and find openings for guys like Ty Mishock Ty Mishock 5'10" | PG Spring Ford | 2024 PA (5’9 G ‘24) and Ben Costello (6’4 W ‘24).
12-12 Tie
Mishock really got hot in the second quarter. He canned another two threes off-the-catch. Then he took advantage of Wood switching bigs on to him by putting Wood in foul trouble to score 11 points in the period. After going scoreless in the first, Jalil Bethea Jalil Bethea 6'4" | SG Archbishop Wood | 2024 State #5 Nation PA (6’4 G ‘24) got on the board with 8 points from all over – an and-1 lay up, a catch-and-shoot three, and two more free throws. But it wasn’t enough as the Tide outscored the Vikings 18 to 10.
30-22, Devon Prep
The third quarter gave us a ton of points as Devon Prep extended their lead. Second-chance points were the catalyst for the Tide. Zane Conlon Zane Conlon 6'5" | SF Devon Prep | 2025 State PA (6’4 F ‘25), who was setting screens for others in the first half, got a couple buckets of his own. He, Orchard, and others worked the glass. DP also ran pitchbacks and DHOs to generate more open looks from deep. The threes then led to their patented cuts to the rim. For Wood, Deuce Maxey Deuce Maxey 6'2" | SG Archbishop Wood | 2025 State PA (6’2 G ‘25) secondary scoring from three and craft finishes to keep the Vikings afloat.
50-37, Devon Prep
The Vikings locked in in the fourth with big defensive plays from Bethea and Josh Reed Josh Reed 6'3" | CG Archbishop Wood | 2024 State PA (6’3 G ‘24). Reed blocked shots around the rim and on the perimeter, while Bethea pulled down numerous defensive rebounds. Ihsan Beyah came off the bench to stifle the Tide at the point-of-attack and Maxey continued to get to the paint. Devon Prep got some quality looks but weren’t able to find the bottom of the basket. Wood completed the 20-0 run and the comeback with clutch free throws from Bethea.
