Danial Bogre, 5’8 PG – Rice Memorial High School Class of 2023
Bogre comes off the pine for an exceptionally deep Rice squad, but his leadership, IQ and composure are key to Rice’s success. He’s a floor general who can quarterback the offensive unit. He has great ball security, constantly keeping his defender busy while he buys time to hit cutters and guys coming off of screens. Furthermore, Bogre is a strong slasher. He has great elevation, and he uses his body + the rim well to protect the ball for finishes. Defensively Danial is just as solid. He moves his feet well when defending the ball, rotates quickly in the press and halfcourt situations, and is an open court finisher. He would get near starter’s minutes on most squads, but Rice is just so deep.
Elijah Duprey, 6’0 PG – Vergennes Union High School Class of 2023
Duprey commands a D3 VUHS squad that had a final-four appearance last year and they’re in the mix for yet another this winter. With nice length and athleticism, Elijah is able do a lot of damage on the defensive end. He’s a pesky on-ball defender who has the agility to get up into ballhandlers and dictate their movement. Off the ball he plays passing lanes well, plus he’s a solid rebounder out of the PG slot. On the offensive end, he’s shown good ball security with his handle and passing, utilizing ball fakes well as he times his passes. In addition, Elijah loves to attack the rim. He can finish in the short range with a floater package, or right at the iron with nice elevation and extension, and his 15-footer is coming along. Duprey is a defensive minded PG who can get a bucket when needed.
Deng Aguek, 5’10 PG – South Burlington High School Class of 2025
An all-around PG who can do a bit of everything, Aguek continues to impress. He’s an athletic and agile defender, often able to dictate where ballhandlers are able to get to. Plus, his length provides him the ability to disrupt a lot of shots and passes while keeping his feet on the ground. On the offensive end is where he really excels. Aguek takes care of the ball with his tight handle and precise passing. He orchestrates the offense with great timing and at the same time he can create tons of offense. He can score at all three-levels whether it be with off-ball movement or off the dribble and his shot selection is agreeable. Deng is a two-way player, plus his open court playmaking is clinical. He’s one to keep tabs on.
Carter Blanchard, 5’9 PG – Rice Memorial High School Class of 2023
Carter is another one of Rice’s numerous skilled guards, but I get the sense his situational awareness is a step above some of his counterparts. Blanchard is a cunning PG who understands what’s needed, whether it be a drawn-out possession, a quick bucket, or to get a particular guy a shot in his favorite spot. Moreover, Carter has the ability to create offense. He’s got a shifty handle and can knock it down in the mid-range off of dribble combinations, or he’ll get to the rack and either finish against 1v1 coverage or make the basketball play when the defense collapses. Additionally, he’s a great spacer + mover off the rock. Defensively Carter can really grind. He has nice agility, great anticipation against ball screens, and his rotations are usually spot on. Blanchard is rock solid.
Kerrick Medose, 6’0 PG – St. Johnsbury Academy Class of 2025
Medose is a methodical PG with the frame of an undersized post player. Kerrick is sturdy and smart, using his body well to protect the ball and his strength to play through contact. He has over-the-top vision and the wit to hit guys right as their coming into space, churning out on time and on target passes consistently. Off the ball he’s just as wise. He sets solid screens, cuts into space, and relocates nicely on drives. Defensively he has solid agility for his size, but it’s his IQ and court awareness that make him unique. He anticipates actions well and adjusts quickly to cut them off, plus he his rotations are timely. Medose rebounds well with his size, can defend 1-3, and finishes his looks at all three-levels. Solid as they come.
Freddie Bacon, 5’10 PG – Colchester High School Class of 2026
The freshman locked in the starting job at CHS a while back and I can see why. His consistency from the first weeks of the season up until now has been impressive to say the least. Bacon is a pass-first point guard who knows how to get his guys in spots. He’s a communicative leader, hits guys on time, and knows how to get a bucket himself. Freddie has shown great ball security all year as well as situational awareness. Moreover, his defensive rotations are top tier, especially for a freshman. He’s in help position early and isn’t afraid to mix it up with the post players. On ball, he traces the rock constantly with an active hand and bothers shots with arms high, rarely reaching. He’s a must watch.
