The Shootout will take place January 6 and January 7 at Lely High School in Naples. 13 teams from across the South Florida area will be on display in this year’s event. Prep Hoops Florida scout Josh Cutler will be in attendance to cover the event. Here is who to make note of on the Opening Day of the shootout.
Game 1: Archbishop McCarthy vs Community School of Naples- Friday at 5:00pm: In the first matchup of the 2023 Don Stewart Shootout, the Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks come in with an 11-6 record and are led by 7th year head coach Michael Alvarez. Keep an eye on 6’5 junior forward Andre Guerrier Andre Guerrier 6'6" | SG Hernandez | 2024 State FL who is leading the team averaging 12.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Another name to keep an eye on will be junior combo guard Guy Twitty who is averaging 12.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. On the other side Community School of Naples comes in with a 12-2 record and are ranked No. 16 in Class 3A, according to MaxPreps. Keep an eye on 6’3 senior combo guard Jackson McAdams Jackson McAdams 6'4" | CG Naples | 2023 State FL and 5’10 junior guard Dom Hoge.
Game 2: Trinity Catholic vs St. Brendan- Friday at 5:30pm: The Trinity Catholic Celtics will look to get back to their winning ways, as they come into the shootout on a 6-game losing streak. Keep an eye on 6’6 freshman forward Jermaine Kinsler who is averaging a double-double for the Celtics. On the other side, the St. Brendan Sabres come in with a 9-4 record and are led by head coach Juan Hernandez. Keep an eye on 5’10 senior guard Santiago Tovar, who is the team’s leader in scoring and assists.
Game 3: Westminster Christian vs First Baptist Academy- Friday at 6:30pm: The Westminster Christian Warriors come into the shootout with a 7-5 record and are on a four-game losing streak. Keep an eye on 6’0 sophomore guard Cooper Whitby Cooper Whitby 6'1" | SG Westminster Christian | 2025 FL and 6’3 sophomore combo guard Dwight Whipple. On the other side, First Baptist Academy comes in with a 8-3 record and are led by 15th year head coach Scott Stewart. Keep an eye on 6’3 senior combo guard Latrell Davis Latrell Davis 6'3" | CG First Baptist Academy | 2023 State FL who is a double-double machine for the Lions. Also keep an eye on 6’4 senior forward Olsen Henry Olsen Henry 6'4" | PF First Baptist | 2023 FL , who is signed to play football at Clemson University.
Game 4: True North Classical vs Blanche Ely- Friday at 7:00pm: The True North Classical Academy Titans come into the Don Stewart Shootout on a 5-game winning streak and are 10-1 on the season. Keep an eye on 6’0 freshman guard Jasen Lopez Jasen Lopez 6'0" | CG True North Classical Academy | 2026 State FL who leads the team averaging 19.3 points and 3.7 rebounds per game for the Titans. Another name to keep an eye on will be 5’10 freshman guard Booise Swan who is averaging 18.3 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. On the other side, the Blanche Ely Tigers come into the Don Stewart Shootout with a 5-4 record.
Game 5: Miami Palmetto vs Lely- Friday at 8:00pm: In the final game of the Opening Day of the 9th Annual Don Stewart Shootout, the Miami Palmetto Panthers come in with a 8-3 record and are led by 3rd year head coach Alex Ordoqui. Keep an eye on 6’3 junior guard Randy Smith who is the team’s leader in scoring, averaging 17.8 points per game. Also keep an eye on 6’1 junior guard Braylon Burbridge Braylon Burbridge 6'2" | PG Miami Palmetto | 2024 State FL who is averaging 14.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per game this season for the Panthers. On the other side, the Lely Trojans come into the 9th Annual Don Stewart Shootout with a 8-6 record and are led by 11th year head coach Fritz Jacques. The Trojans have also won 5 of their last 6 games coming into the shootout, sustaining a 58-50 loss to Palmetto Ridge back on December 22.
