The 2023 APS Metro Basketball Tournament lived up to the hype again this year. The tournament concluded with the Volcano Vista Hawks winning their second straight Metro Championship with a 69-66 victory vs Sandia. Throughout the tournament, there was high level play from players and teams all over the community. This article will break down the best players from this year’s Metro Tournament with three teams consisting of two guard, two forwards and one center.


First Team All-Metro Tournament Team

Guard Andrew Hill Andrew Hill Andrew Hill 6'2" | CG Sandia | 2023 State NM (Sandia)Led the Sandia Matadors to the Metro Championship Game. Led the team in scoring averaging 19.2 points per game throughout the tournament.
Forward Elijah Brody Elijah Brody Elijah Brody 6'2" | SF West Mesa | 2024 State NM (West Mesa)Averaged 19.5 points per game as the Mustangs leading scorer in the tournament. Helped West Mesa reach the Final Four in the Metro Tournament.
Forward Kenyon Aguino Kenyon Aguino Kenyon Aguino 6'7" | PF Volcano Vista | 2025 State NM (Volcano Vista)Averaged a double-double of 19.0 points per game and 10.2 rebounds per game throughout the tournament. Led Volcano Vista to their second straight Metro Title while being selected as the Championship Game MVP.
Center Sean Alter Sean Alter Sean Alter 6'9" | PF Volcano Vista | 2023 State NM (Volcano Vista)Recorded two double-double during the tournament. Player of the game in first round matchup vs Albuquerque. Played huge role in the Hawks winning another Metro Title.

Second Team All-Metro Tournament Team

Guard Caileb Parham Caileb Parham Caileb Parham 6'2" | SG Eldorado | 2023 State NM (Eldorado)Led Eldorado to the Metro Quarterfinals. He was top five in scoring in terms of points per game in the Metro Tournament. Scored the third most points (37) in a game in this years tournament vs Del Norte in the First Round.
ForwardMichael Mackey (Hobbs)Scored the second most points (43) in a game in this year Metro Tournament vs West Mesa in the First Round. Was only behind Shane Douma-Sanchez Shane Douma-Sanchez Shane Douma-Sanchez 6'1" | PG Del Norte | 2023 State NM as the second leading scorer in this year Metro Tournament.
Forward Nic Trujillo Nic Trujillo Nic Trujillo 6'1" | SF Cleveland | 2023 State NM (Cleveland)Was Cleveland’s most all-around player while dealing with team injuries. Still managed to lead Cleveland to the Metro Semifinals for the 4th time in 5 years. Was the glue that held the team together,
CenterTorrance Burdex (West Mesa)Arguably the Mustangs second best player during their final four run in this years Metro Tournament. One of the Mustangs top three scorers and led them in rebounding.

Led AHA in scoring in every game in the Metro Tournament. Scored 20+ in three of the four games and averaged 20.5 points per game. Was top five in points per game in the tournament.
Forward Jett Wyckoff Jett Wyckoff Jett Wyckoff 6'3" | SF Hope Christian | 2023 State NM (Hope Christian)Averaged 21.2 points per game and 8.7 rebounds per game during the Metro Tournament. Was fourth in scoring and recorded two double-doubles. Led team in scoring and rebounding.
Forward Lamarion Coleman Lamarion Coleman Lamarion Coleman 6'2" | SF Sandia | 2023 State NM (Sandia)Led the Sandia Matadors in rebounding and recorded one double-double in this years Metro Tournament. Was a huge key in Sandia reaching the Metro Final.
Center Antonio Ortiz Antonio Ortiz Antonio Ortiz 6'3" | PF Atrisco Heritage Academy | 2023 State NM (Atrisco Heritage).Led AHA in rebounding and blocked shots. Went 3-1 during the Metro Tournament.
