1000-Point Club and Players Near The Milestone

This season we have seen are fair share of players eclipse the total and their a few players who can join the small club of players by the end of this season. Their is also a select few of players who can reach 1,000 points next season. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:separator {"className":"is-style-wide"} --> <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide" /> <!-- /wp:separator --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><em><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline">1,000 Point Club</span></strong></em></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1076702' first='Shane' last='Douma-Sanchez']</strong> "Del Note High School" </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>It has been quite the journey for <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1076702' first='Shane' last='Douma-Sanchez']</strong> during his career at Del Norte High School. Coming into the season, he scored 997 career points and was just 3 points shy of the 1,000 career mark heading into his senior year. In the season opener vs Pojoaque Valley, it didn't take long for him to join the 1,000 career points club. Later on this season, <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1076702' first='Shane' last='Douma-Sanchez']</strong> became the Del Norte Knights all-time leading scorer surpassing the great "<strong>Scott Bamforth</strong>" for #1 all-time in school history. He currently sits at 1,618 career points and is 382 points shy of 2,000 career points. Throughout his career he has averaged 21.9 points per game in his four seasons with the Knights. If it wasn't for a knee injury during his junior year and the shortened Covid season during his sophomore year; <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1076702' first='Shane' last='Douma-Sanchez']</strong> had a strong chance at being a Top Ten all-time leading scorer in New Mexico history. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1208052' first='Kellan' last='Gehres']</strong> '"Albuquerque Academy"</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1208052' first='Kellan' last='Gehres']</strong> has made some history for the Albuquerque Academy Chargers this season. He is a four-year varsity player for the Chargers and surpassed the 1,000 point career mark earlier this season in a game vs Gallup High School. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1208052' first='Kellan' last='Gehres']</strong> became just the 10th player in program history to score at least 1,000 career points in a Chargers uniform. Throughout his career, he has averaged about 16 points per game through his four seasons with Albuquerque Academy. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1208052' first='Kellan' last='Gehres']</strong> currently has 1,090 career points and has climbed up to #7 all-time on the Chargers career points list. He is a four-year varsity player and a three-year varsity starter throughout his high school career. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1485758' first='Alexis' last='Dominguez']</strong> is currently at 846 career points and 154 points shy of 1,000 career points. Assuming the Highland Hornets have another deep run in this years 4A Boys State Tournament, it seems like a given that <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1485758' first='Alexis' last='Dominguez']</strong> will reach 1,000 career points at some point this year. At his current pace, he could possibly reach 1,000 points within the next 8-9 games with his current average of 17.8 points per game. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1166976' first='Cody' last='Vassar-Steen']</strong> "Farmington High School" </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='1166976' first='Cody' last='Vassar-Steen'] is almost a lock to crack the 1,000 career point mark at some point this season. He currently sits at 918 career points with a lot more basketball to play this year. He is averaging 17.9 points per game this season and is 154 points away from the 1,000 career mark. As a junior this year, he sits at 662 career points and should finish with at least 750 points this year or more.
