Here’s a look at the top performers from the games we attended on Thursday and Friday – Salem Academy over Newport at the Westside Winter Jam, and Beaverton over Barlow.
Brady Rice Brady Rice 6'2" | SG Beaverton | 2023 State OR (2023 Beaverton)
The Rice was cooking at all three levels Beaverton High School as the guard scored a game-high 21 points in a big home win. The senior mainly got his points hitting shots from mid range and getting to the hoop, where he’d either finish or draw contact and get to the line. Rice let the game come to him, which often meant setting up teammates for scores – he also finished with 5 assists.
Jalen Childs Jalen Childs 6'3" | PG Beaverton | 2023 State OR (2023 Beaverton)
With so many offensive options around him, Childs didn’t have to score as much and he had a tremendous all-around game. He wound up with 12 points, largely on drives to the basket but also hit a corner three. Five boards and a couple of assists on the night, but where he may have made the most impact was with his defense as he constantly shadowed star Barlow guard Jalen Atkins Jalen Atkins 6'2" | SG Barlow | 2025 State OR wherever he went, helping hold him to only five points.
Aidan Rice Aidan Rice 6'2" | PG Beaverton | 2024 State OR (2024 Beaverton)
The “other” Rice was cooking as well – especially with his three-point shot. Getting opportunities off the catch-and-shoot, the junior drained three big triples in the second half as Beaverton pulled away after a close halftime score. Rice didn’t just pull from deep either as he also did a great job passing to find open teammates, ending up with 4 assists.
Mason Bierbrauer Mason Bierbrauer 6'6" | PF Barlow | 2025 State OR (2025 Barlow)
As it was a tough night for teammate Atkins, Bierbrauer picked up the scoring load and wound up with 20 points on the night to go along with 7 rebounds. The 6-foot-5 forward got it done not only around the hoop but also from the perimeter, hitting a couple of threes, and he showed off his athleticism with a fast break jam late in the game.
Jahvari Martino Jahvari Martino 6'0" | CG Barlow | 2023 State OR (2023 Barlow)
The main senior on this relatively young squad, Martino will be heavily counted upon in many ways and he contributed on Friday night in the scoring department with 12 points. He was shifty off dribble drives and utilized his athleticism to get his shot off in the lane.
Jackson Oglesby Jackson Oglesby 6'8" | PF Salem Academy | 2023 State OR (2023 Salem Academy)
Oglesby has improved tremendously since we last saw him play at the Capitol City Classic last season. The 6-foot-8 forward moves well on the floor, has a nice outside shot, and simply seems to be playing with more confidence. He was dominant against Newport registering 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 assists.
Jaren Oglesby (2023 Salem Academy)
An aggressive offensive player, Oglesby was cold from the perimeter early but simply shifted to going to the basket until the jumper started working again. This ended up being a good balance for him showing that he could score at all three levels and he finished with a game-high 24 points.
