But, the aspect of Drake’s game that stood out to me is his intensity on defense. Drake plays excellent defense and forced a number of turnovers and forced passes. Drake can definitely get to the basket and he isn’t afraid of contact but he was not forcing anything; he was willing to make the extra pass which is not too common these days. The energy that he brings off the bench is unmatched. He is constantly hyping his teammates up and you can tell that he is genuinely happy when his teammates do well.
Cross Carter 2023 – Cascia Hall: Cross is the quietest threat on the court. He seems to always be where he needs to be to get the tough rebounds and runs the court well when his guards are pushing the ball up the floor. Cross has an unorthodox shot and doesn’t always have the best positioning under the basket but he seems to find a way to finish well around the rim. If he can discipline himself to keep his hands straight up when defending the basket and stay out of foul trouble, Cross will be hard to get around. Cascia Hall had a strong showing in their season opener and if Cross and the rest of the Cascia Hall players can keep this intensity and stay locked in, this should be a strong season for the Commandos.
Kobe Freeman Kobe Freeman 5'11" | PG Purcell | 2025 State OK 2025 – Purcell: Kobe is the type of guard that every team needs. He is unselfish, can control the tempo of the game, leads his offense and can score from just about anywhere. I had the pleasure of watching Kobe play a few games over the summer and he has not let up coming into the school season. Kobe gets better every time that I watch him play. As a guard, he sees the whole court and makes almost flawless passes when he has cutters or a teammate running up the court. And, if he is on defense, you better protect the ball because if you don’t, the ball now belongs to him. Kobe is a player to keep an eye on as his sophomore season will likely make him a household name when talking about guards in Oklahoma.
Malachi Evans Malachi Evans 5'11" Purcell | 2023 OK 2023 – Purcell: Malachi is a strong guard & when he attacks the basket, get ready for some contact and a finish at the rim. His first step will catch defenders off guard and whoever is playing defense on him has to stay ready because you never know if he will pull from deep, give you a quick cross into a smooth jump shot or go straight to the basket. Malachi is not only an offensive threat as his defense is fierce yet controlled; he doesn’t “just play defense”, he dictates where the ball handler will go and more times than not, he forces the ball handler to give up the ball.
