Highlight of the week
This season means a lot for Tyler Tanner for one main reason: to help Brentwood Academy win this season’s Division II-AA boys’ state championship. The junior point guard has been a part of two teams that have had long postseason success.
Last season, the Eagles lost to Knoxville Catholic in the semifinals round of the state tournament. The season before, Brentwood Academy lost to Montgomery Bell Academy in the state title game.
There are eight seniors on this season’s roster, and Tanner knows how meaningful it would be to send the senior class off with the gold ball.
“This year is more important than ever, because all of the seniors on this team are my brothers,” said Tanner, who had 29 points in Friday night’s win over Christian Brothers. “I want to win for them. Obviously, for myself, too, because that’s the mentality that I have. I always want to win.
“The whole team is bought in. This team wants it more than other year we have had.”
