Trey Smith Genoa-Hugo/Karval
8.0 steals through 3 games
Trey Smith is not only leading the way in steals but he is also his team’s leading scorer. Would like to see him balance some of his game out and cut down on some of the turnovers. He has a high steal rate averaging 8 per game but had 12 turnovers against the Idalia Wolves that would negate the 8 that he had in this game. Will look for him to improve on the three ball but Smith is a great two-way player that makes a big impact for his team on both sides of the ball.
Daquan Slayton Far Northeast Warriors
6.0 steals through 6 games
Daquan Slayton has the most games under his belt in this group and shows his defensive impact for his team with the numbers. He does commit a lot of fouls but you partly expect that when you are among the top players in steals. The Far Northeast Warriors are a very balanced team and he plays his role well also leads the Warriors in rebounds. Slayton is the driving force to a team that runs a lot of press and dropping back into zone. Slayton has a good matchup coming up against a top scorer in Luke Wagstaff Luke Wagstaff 6'8" Fort Collins | 2023 CO on 12/15.
Dylan Perkins Stargate School Eagles
6.0 steals through 4 games
Dylan Perkins is a well-rounded player contributing in every category for the Eagles. Will look for him to continue these numbers against stiffer competition but he has made the most of his opportunities thus far into the season. Perkins can hit the three ball, I would like to see him hit it more consistently and he is active on the boards as well. Perkins received the player of the game against Liberty Common and will look to build on that performance against a Pinnacle team that is clicking out the gates.
MinZheng Wahlers Golden View Classical Academy Sentinels
5.5 steals through 4 games
MinZheng Wahlers has become more lethal from behind the arc as of late shooting 50% from three in his last three games. Wahlers impact on the defensive side has been important for his team averaging 5.5 steals per game to pair with 6.5 rebounds per game. Would like to see Wahlers limit the turnovers and continue to dominate on the defensive side. Wahlers will have a great matchup on 12/13 against a tough Denver Jewish day that I feel he can leave his mark on the game.
Nate Cabrera Swink Lions
5.3 steals through 6 games
Nate Cabrera Cabrera has been making defense his focal point in the Lions last couple of games adding a couple of blocks to the stat column. Cabrera will have to continue his efforts on the defensive side as the next closes person on his team in steals is two back from him. He has also been making an impact on the offense side as well, leading his team in scoring in two of the last three games. Cabrera also posted a double digit steal game in one of those three as well. Cabrera has also been trying to improve his three ball and will continue to try and improve as the lions will now begin league play.
