Elijah Black – 5’10 Class of 2024 Katy Jordan High School
Black have a great feel for the game. His body mass can bump smaller guards around, and create angles to attack the paint. Doesn’t force shots, and have the patience to let the play develop. For young point guard on varsity he doesn’t get rattled easy. He remains calm while the trap it coming keeping. Some consider Black a combo guard with the skills he have. To me, you can put him at the point or two position, but his skills are best suited for the point. If he gets at least six feet four inches then you have a coaches dream. This kid can end being a household name at his position in the city.
Montana Wheeler Montana Wheeler 5'9" | PG Houston Christian | 2025 State #126 Nation TX – 5’9 Class of 2025 Houston Christian
Wheeler is tough to stay in front of. He uses his size when dribbling to get around defenders; keeping the inside shoulder low while dribbling. His IQ is superior than most. After the game I interviewed Wheeler and he broke down the game-winning buzzer-beater play. By far one of the smartest guards in the state and country. After the game he broke down his game-winning pass knowing the right read to make when the defense shifted. I’ve never seen him rattled in any game situation. He is ready to step up to the moment. He just wants to win the game he loves play. He’ll go down amongst the trees, and fight for rebounds. Any improvements needed, Wheeler along with his father will make sure it gets taken care of.
Calvin Murphy III Calvin Murphy III 6'0" | PG Dream City Christian | 2025 State AZ – 6’0 Class of 2025 Jack Yates High School
Murphy have become more mature in the point guard. His change of pace keep defender off-balance that makes it hard to stay in front because of how shifty he is. From the beginning he find the open man down below or cutting to the basket. Keeps a calm persona. His muscular frame have grown over the summer. What stood out was his point guard skills. His decision-making for the correct pass have improved along with his vision. That can be dangerous for his opponents as Murphy can already knock down shots off the dribble, and can create the necessary space.
T’John Brown – 5’10 Class of 2023 Kimball High School
Brown reached a new level of bounce. Two open dunks and caught a poster in his game against Ft. Bend Marshall. Known for his on-ball defense I think his offense game sometimes get pushed aside. Finding the cutting open with no-look passes. Wouldn’t leave him open to knock down perimeter shots. Quick guard that can finish above the rim. Brown exemplifies ‘the size of the fire in the dog’ with the relentless he plays with. He showcased decision making and IQ. He embraces a rowdy, scrappy game because he is player that can get you great results when he pushes the ball. Some wondered how he would play in his first appearance at state, and he exceed expectations. Its in him and not on him.
Mason Allen – 6’0 Class of 2023 Madison High School
Allen plays with full confidence and effort. Guard that can get up and down the floor fast. Doesn’t shy away from contact but invites it. His IQ can be underrated sometimes due to his aggressive scoring mindset. If Allen can find ways to get Gambrel in easy scoring positions can result in the duo being one of the most feared in the state. When he starts learning how to change his pace, he’ll be even harder to stay in front of. He have the body frame to move bigger rim protectors in the air. Can become more vocal in getting his team in the right spot one offense, and calling a set for the mismatch. He is an X-factor for the Marlins this year. He plays with a ton of heart, and sometimes having heart can propel you in a game. HISD will be even tougher this year, and Allen have a chance for his name to be tier one.
