Jona Dawson, 6-1 2023 G, Scripps Ranch
The Falcons program has historically had at least one deep range sniper. This year, in addition to Aubrey Thompson (mentioned in an earlier report) they have Dawson, who is pretty much money when his feet are set. His range stretches to the 10-second line and he has the green light to pull from deep. One area where he’s improved this year is attacking closeouts and making good reads in drive and kick.
Steven Ruesga, 6-1 2023 G, Hilltop
Ruesga is the leader of an undermanned Hilltop team, but he’s a gamer. The lefty can hit shots from both sides of the floor and with range that stretches beyond the college three. He’s also got underrated court vision and feel, capable of delivering the highlight dime.
Jaden Herrera Jaden Herrera 6'0" | SG Del Norte | 2023 CA-S , 5-11 2023 G, Del Norte
Herrera has been a favorite of mine since this summer, when he burst onto the scene during the Nighthawks stellar performances at SDSU. He’s continued that run in the early season, knocking down shots from deep and attacking the basket and finishing around the rim through contact.
Ely Elegado, 6-1 2025 G, La Jolla Country Day
Elegado is a wiry combo guard who is as good of a corner three shooter as we have in the county. He does a good job of sliding into his spots, keeping his hands shot ready, and knocking down open looks with high accuracy. In transition, he is a crafty ball handler who can get to spots in the midrange and hit those shots with improved efficiency.
Isaiah Marte, 6-0 2025 G, San Diego
Not to be outdone by his older brother, Noah, the 6-0 scoring guard has a quick, feathery release and doesn’t miss many open jump shots. Marte has a different build than big brother – he’s long, wiry and has very good quickness and plays with a little more intensity on defense. But his shooting, much like brother, is a skill set that borders on elite.
