Some of the region’s best teams, and players, took the floor throughout the showcase and we were there for Saturday’s action.
Jacob Huggins Jacob Huggins 6'7" | PF Harvard-Westlake | 2023 State #281 Nation , Harvard-Westlake
The Princeton-bound forward/center was seemingly everywhere in the Wolverines’ win over Rancho Christian and it showed in his final statistical tally. The 6-foot-8 senior out-played fellow Division 1-bound center Martin Gumwel Martin Gumwel 6'11" | C Rancho Christian | 2023 State in a matchup of two of SoCal’s premier big men, scoring 17 points to go along with eight rebounds. Huggins controlled the paint on both ends of the floor as he finished dump-off passes with powerful dunks and limited the Eagles second-chance points by cleaning the defensive glass.
Kamron Fontenot, St. Paul
Fontenot is an under-the-radar forward in SoCal but if he continues to produce like he did on Saturday throughout the season there will be some next level interest coming his way. The 6-foot-6 senior is a physical inside presence on both ends of the floor as he crashes the offensive boards, blocks out and controls the defensive glass and uses his strength and physicality to score through contact inside.
Kendyl Sanders Kendyl Sanders 6'6" | PF St. Bernard | 2024 State , St. Bernard
Sanders is getting back into the groove of things after missing some fall league games due to injury, but the 2024 forward looked good coming off of the bench for the Vikings. The 6-foot-7 junior is turning himself into a mobile stretch four-man who is a consistent shooter at the 15-foot range and out to the three-point line in both corners. Sanders finished with 14 points in. St. Bernard’s 68-44 win over St. Monica.
Kevin Patton, Jr., Rancho Christian
While many of the Eagles other talented players were struggling to get things going offensively, Patton, Jr. made sure to keep them within striking distance throughout the battle of two of SoCal’s best teams. The 6-foot-8 senior tied for game-high honors with 21 points and used his size and skill to score in a variety of ways. Patton, Jr. can stretch the floor to the three-point line off the catch and off the bounce and he did a really good job of getting to the free throw line, hitting all six of his attempts from the charity stripe.
