Zach Davis, 6’5 F – Colchester High School Class of 2024
In Colchester’s single game of the week Zach put up a 27-point masterpiece to lead all scorers. Davis has that modern inside out ability that so many forwards work on these days. He’s a catch-and-shoot threat all around the floor and shoots it quite efficiently. Moreover, his ball screen game is fluid and smart. He rolls hard to the rim when the lane is open, or he’ll pop and knock it down from the perimeter. In addition, he can body guys inside and finish at the rim with baby hooks. A tough rebounder too, Davis is too strong for thin forwards and too mobile for heavy-footed bigs. Keep watch.
Tyler Rivard, 6’7 F – Hazen High School Class of 2023
Rivard has some of my favorite game in the state. Rivard is a mobile big with impressive passing skills and relentless work ethic. He posted 24 points, 13 rebounds, and six assists to open the season at Hazen’s four-team home tournament. To which he followed up with 19 points in the tournament championship against Lamoille. Tyler is someone whose hustle is always in high gear, hauling rebounds at both ends and collecting 50/50 balls. In addition, he’s an efficient scorer around the cup and has the motor + frame to secure second possessions and finish second chance points. The reigning D3 champ is firing on all cylinders.
Cooper Diego, 6’2 G – Spaulding High School Class of 2023
Cooper and company got a blowout road win against D1 Burlington to open the season. Diego provided 22 points in what was a rather off night for Spaulding. Nonetheless, Cooper got to the rim in transition and finished well around the cup amongst Burlington’s height, length, and athleticism. In addition, he found the stroke from three and the short-range as well. A primary ballhandler too, Cooper handled defensive pressure with ease, drew fouls, and converted at the free throw line. Diego has high hoop IQ and is one of VT’s most prolific scorers, so he’ll be in a number of these POTW pieces.
Sawyer Ramey Sawyer Ramey 5'10" | PG Deerfield Academy | 2024 State New E , 5’8 G – Fair Haven Union High School Class of 2023
The lefty had the range sighted in on Saturday afternoon. He put up 23 points in a solid win against Vergennes and surpassed the 1,000-point scoring mark in doing so. Ramey got out to a hot start, sparking transition opportunities with numerous steals which he converted into layups and assists. Moreover, Sawyer has nice playmaking ability. He slips into the second layer with ease and can maintain his dribble with tight dribble combos. He finished amongst Vergennes’ length inside and he set teammates up with dump passes and heady kick outs. Sawyer does a little of everything for Fair Haven.
Tyler Bergmans Tyler Bergmans 6'2" | SG South Burlington | 2024 State New E , 6’2 G – South Burlington High School Class of 2024
One of the best rebounding guards around, Tyler makes a point to clean the glass. Bergmans posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards in a bounce back win over U-32. He’s a savvy defensive rebounder due to his consistency on box outs and he pursues the ball with nice anticipation and elevation. Moreover, he’s a tough finisher around the rim. Tyler gets into the second layer well with his strength and handle and often finishes off of two feet in the interior. The combo-guard has good feel for the game and makes opponents work on both sides of the ball.
Carson Cody, 6’3 G/W – Montpelier High School Class of 2025
Long, tall, and talented, Carson has been a clear stock riser in the early goings. I first saw him in the preseason battling against CVU and he impressed with his cool, confident stroke both in the mid-to-short range and from deep. Against Essex he showed more of the same as he dropped a 24 piece against the D1 opponent in a convincing win on opening night. With his length he shoots over the top of defenders and finishes above the limbs around the rim on drives. In addition, he’s a scrappy defender out of MHS’ full court press, hawking ballhandlers with traps and quick rotations. I’m keeping tabs on Carson.
