The top ten power forwards are some of the most important players on their team. In many games, they are the anchor to their teams’ defense while being an integral part of the paint presence for their team on the offensive end. In this PHLA exclusive, we will look at the top nine power forwards in the 2023 class.
Dorian Booker Dorian Booker 6'10" | PF Scotlandville | 2023 State LA (Scotlandville | 6’10”)
The UNO signee has worked hard to become the player he is. He is a very good rebounder and he is very good at tapping the ball to himself to gather rebounds. Booker is almost automatic on the right block. His lefty hook turning baseline is money more times than not. He is definitely a player who is a threat when he has the ball.
Kamron Coleman Kamron Coleman 6'8" | PF Wossman | 2023 State LA (Wossman | 6’8″)
Coleman is a wiry rim protector who is very active on both the offensive and defensive boards. He is a fiery competitor who can rebound in big numbers when he is focused. Coleman has improved his shooting out to 15 feet but is best around the basket. If he catches the ball in the paint, he is almost guaranteed to score.
Cardez Norman Cardez Norman 6'6" | PF Sterlington | 2024 LA (Sterlington | 6’6″)
Norman is the best rebounder in this group of players. He is very good at attacking the offensive and defensive boards and gathering the ball the first time. Norman is very good in transition and he actually can handle the ball as well. His strength and athleticism make a huge difference when he is on the floor.
Ronneal Harold Ronneal Harold 6'6" | PF Amite | 2023 State LA (Amite | 6’6″)
Harold may play the four in high school. However, he has the potential to play some wing on the next level. Harold is an athletic four man who can block shots and rebound. He can also step out and knock down a jumper as well. Harold uses his length to his advantage and it helps him be successful on the floor.
Edward Kornbacher Edward Kornbacher 6'8" | PF Liberty | 2023 State LA (Liberty | 6’8″)
The Liberty senior is a rim-rattling forward who has some finesse to his game as well. While he can tear down the rim during one possession, he can step out and hit short jumpers as well. Kornbacher is hard to stop in transition. If he has it coming downhill, get out of the way. Kornbacher is a force at the four for his team.
Wendell Hampton Wendell Hampton 6'5" | PF Shaun Dumas Academy | 2023 State LA (Shaun Dumas | 6’5″)
Hampton blossomed over the summer on the Prep Hoops Circuit and he has taken that game into the season. He is a player who can score it on every level. Hampton is highly consistent from 15 feet and he can step out beyond the arc. He is also a player who can command the paint. Hampton is definitely a player who has come into his own.
Jaquinton Jackson Jaquinton Jackson 6'7" | PF RIchwood | 2023 State LA (Richwood | 6’7″)
Jackson is a player who is active around the paint and is hard to keep off of the glass. He is long, athletic, and possesses a quick second jump. Jackson is also very good in transition. He will either fill the lane or get the offensive rebound. Jackson is a rim protector too. He definitely does his best work in the paint.
Bryson Williams Bryson Williams 5'10" | CG Southwood | 2025 State LA (Southside | 6’5″)
Williams plays with his back to the basket a lot out of necessity. However, he has developed more of a face-up game which allows him to attack his defenders more often. His footwork separates him from a lot of forwards in this category. Williams is also very good at finishing on the break and he rebounds very well in traffic. While he is slightly undersized, he is very good at this position.
Laythan Delaney Laythan Delaney 6'4" | PF Haughton | 2023 State LA (Haughton | 6’3″)
This undersized power forward gives teams in north Louisiana the blues when he catches the ball. Delaney has a strong upper body and is very mobile because of his size. He can maneuver well within the paint and seemingly cannot be stopped from finishing with his left. Delaney is a forward that gives many teams problems.
While these forwards are different size and shapes, all of them can rebound and finish in the paint. Their importance to their team is not understated whatsoever.
