Amdy makes the biggest jump of all from unranked to #14. A freak athlete. Extremely skilled forward. One of the faster players running rim to rim. A ferocious rebounder.
#16 Nasir coming off an excellent junior season has continued to build on it during the summer. Burst onto the scene late last year. Tough minded guard. Really good north-south player. Very strong on the ball either handling it or guarding it. Can split defenders and finish at the rim.
Michael is the highest mover from Long Island coming in at #30. My preseason pick for AA player of the year on Long Island. Michael is a long athletic player with the ability to score off the drive but can also knock down the three with consistency. Good lift on his jumper. Excellent in transition but also can create in the half court for himself or teammates.
More important then PJ’s ranking which is #83 is the fact that he is healthy. A scary situation occurred a week ago when PJ collapsed, thank God for the quick actions of coach Sheehy and Coach Paul as well as the athletic trainers and administrators from Chaminade high school the young man survived and is doing well. The Nassau county police and emts also arrived quickly on the scene. PJ headed to Scranton University to play is a load in the paint. Hard to move out when he gets you on his back. Able to score consistently around the rim. Strong rebounder and post defender. A leader on the floor does everything you need from a post player to win games.
Highlights
At #85 this long lanky but strong wing can knock down open threes. Extremely effective getting into the lane and finishing at the rim. Outstanding rebounder either in traffic or in space.
Isaiah enters our rankings for the first time at #86. A extremely quick guard. Protects the ball with a low dribble. Has a creative scoop shot in the lane. Moves his feet and hands really well while defending the ball. A pesky defender makes it difficult for the opposing guard.
Darien from Beacon high school in upstate NY comes into our ranking at #88. I feel there is a good chance of this player rising each time we update. He is a dynamic scoring point guard. Has a quick first step. Excellent handle and court vision and awareness. Is having his second season in a row with a very low turnover to assist ratio.
