Landon Van Pelt (Lee’s Summit): A 6’7″ forward who I got to watch at the recent Webster Classic and I was impressed with his ability to get things done inside. He has a big body and he uses it well to establish his position in the post and score on strong moves. He is also an excellent passer who operates well in the high post as he makes the right decision with the ball on a consistent basis.
Antonio Fowler (Winnetonka): A 6’1″ guard who has proven to be a big impact early on as he has helped Winnetonka to its best start in years at 7-0. He is a dynamic player who plays with great energy at both ends of the floor. He attacks the basket and scores on fearless drives and he also can knock down 3-pointers. He is currently averaging 14 points, five rebounds, two assists and nearly five steals a game.
Brandon Clemons (MICDS): A 6’1″ guard who has been an immediate contributor for the Rams, who are currently 6-1 while getting the No. 1 seed at the upcoming Dan Maurer MICDS Christmas Tournament. He is a talented offensive player with a good feel for the game. He does a nice job of taking advantage of his opportunities. He is currently averaging seven points a game while shooting 51 percent from the field. He is also shooting the ball well from 3-point range.
Josh Wheeler (St. Michael the Archangel): A 5’11” point guard who was recently named the Most Valuable Player of the Butler Tournament after leading the Guardians to the championship. He’s a very skilled ball handler and shooter who plays a smooth and under control game. He has a nice shooting stroke from 3-point range and he can also create his own shot off the dribble with his handles. I got my first look at him at the Truman State Elite Camp in August and he had an impressive showing there.
Ben Akoro (Principia): An athletic 6’4″ wing who has been one of the new building blocks for the Panthers, who are currently 8-0 with a tournament championship under their belts. He’s a good all-purpose player who can score with smooth slashing drives to the basket and short jumpers. He also has good ball handling and playmaking skills. He is currently averaging seven points, four rebounds and four assists a game.
Mehki Owens (McCluer North): The 6’4″ wing provides instant offense off the bench for the Stars. I watched him at the Webster Classic and he had a very solid weekend offensively. He has a solid body, good athleticism and a knack for getting buckets in a variety of ways. He is strong on the attack when getting into the lane and he can also hit the open 3-pointer. He is averaging nearly 10 points a game.
