Wyatt Rochon, 5’9 G – Vergennes Union High School Class of 2023
In VUHS’ home opener, Wyatt came out and dazzled with some of his lefty magic. Rochon snaked into the second layer off of savvy dribble combos and secured the ball with a tight low dribble to evade reaching defenders. Once in the interior, Rochon made a number of nice moves. He made tough lays off of both one foot and two feet, where he maneuvered traffic and rose above defenders, putting nice english on the ball to finish. In addition, Wyatt showed the range with a few threes, mostly off the catch. Rochon led all scorers with 21 points and had a couple steals to go with.
Abram Francis, 6’0 W – Vergennes Union High School Class of 2023
The senior leader provided a number of winning plays to the VUHS cause. Francis showcased his inside out ability as a lengthy wing. He made a number of nice cuts into the low post where he took advantage of solid position and smaller defenders. Francis collected a pair of and-1’s off of crisp turnaround jumpers on the block, showing nice awareness in the post. In addition, Abram was a key part of VUHS press. With good speed and length, he forced ballhandlers to the sidelines and contributed a couple of turnovers which turned into fast break buckets. Francis has solid two-way abilities.
Oakley Francis, 6’1 F – Vergennes Union High School Class of 2025
Big Oak was locked in on the glass all evening. Francis reeled in 15 boards, a game high, including a number of offensive boards to secure extra possessions. On the defensive end, Oakley made quick outlets to push the tempo. He also has nice vision off of rebounds; he had one particularly nice advance pass over the top of the defense for a clean, no-dribble finish for the easy deuce. In addition, Oakley controlled the paint with nice strength and verticality. He also contributed seven points. That offensive production came off of tough moves on the left block and a nice perimeter drive. Oak has some inside out ability himself.
Jackson Wimette, 6’2 W – BFA Fairfax Class of 2023
It was clear VUHS had game planned around Jackson’s offensive capabilities. Nonetheless, Jackson was still able to contribute some solid production. Wimette got his 14 points in a variety of ways. He showed good slashing sensibilities, attacking holes in the defense and rising up to finish around the iron. Wimette is also a catch-and-shoot threat, knocking down a couple threes as well. On a night where BFA struggled to get going offensively, Jackson provided half of his teams scoring output.
Evan Fletcher, 5’9 G – BFA Fairfax Class of 2023
A tough point guard with a knack for dishing the rock, Fletcher demonstrated some nice inclinations offensively. Evan was able to penetrate the defense and made plays once in the second layer. He had a number of nice kick outs to shooters as the defense collapsed, and he also contributed 11 points himself. Much of that scoring came off of finishes in the short range, such as little jumpers, floaters, and layups. Evan burnt a lot of energy working his way through VUHS’ press but was fairly efficient with all the usage. Tough first night out for Evan and BFA against one of D3’s most polished teams.
