South Eugene defeated McDaniel for 7th Place, Sunset defeated North Medford for the Consolation Title, La Salle defeated Lakeridge for 3rd Place, and Clackamas defeated Southridge for 1st Place. Here’s a look at the top performers of the day.
Kayin Turner Kayin Turner 6'5" | SF Sunset | 2024 State OR (2024 Sunset)
Turner put in the top performance of the day. With the game tied after three quarters, the 6-foot-4 junior simply took over and was near unstoppable for the Apollos. Whether it was scoring down low or creating for himself from the top of the key, Turner used his combination of length, athleticism, and soft shooting touch to score pretty much all of Sunset’s points in the final quarter to lead them to victory. On the day he finished with 27 points and 11 rebounds, the third 24+ point game in three days at the Lakeridge Tournament.
Parker Harrison Parker Harrison 6'3" | SG Clackamas | 2023 State OR (2023 Clackamas)
Harrison is a good athlete who was able to showcase that on one play when he finished on the break with a flying two-handed slam. The 6-foot-3 guard also skied high for 7 rebounds and a couple of blocked shots for the Cavs in their win over Southridge in the tournament’s title game. A solid shooter with range, Harrison nailed a three late in the game that helped seal the championship victory.
Kaden Groenig Kaden Groenig 5'9" | PG Southridge | 2024 State OR (2024 Southridge)
Southridge was down a key guy as Carter Fortune stayed home ill, so Groenig did his best to make up for the loss. The 5-foot-10 guard used his dribble to create space to get off his shot from the perimeter or get to the basket, and wound up making a couple of threes in addition to converting several layups. Groenig plays a lot bigger than his size and pulled down four boards to go along with his team-high 16 points.
Solomon Nice Solomon Nice 6'5" | SF South Eugene | 2023 State OR (2023 South Eugene)
Nice has been a bit hidden with the Axe the last couple of years but there’s a lot to like about the 6-foot-5 senior. He runs the floor, plays with a good motor, and finishes at the rim. In South Eugene’s blowout victory over McDaniel, he consistently played hard, hit the boards, and got loose for a number of slams in transition. He racked up 27 points, 17 rebounds, and 3 blocks in just over three quarters of play in a dominanting performance.
Landyn Bryant Landyn Bryant 5'9" | PG South Eugene | 2024 State OR (2024 South Eugene)
Almost racking up a triple double against McDaniel was Bryant as we had him down with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 assists. The 5-foot-10 guard is wiry strong, quick off the dribble, and finishes at the rim with either hand. He was very active defensively and often created havoc in South Eugene’s full court press which led to easy buckets on the other end.
Nick Robertson Nick Robertson 6'4" | SG La Salle | 2023 State OR (2023 La Salle)
Robertson’s reputation will always be as a shooter and scorer and he certainly did that against Lakeridge. But the senior guard can do many other things and he was able to show some of those skills in the 3rd place game win. Robertson used his length to grab boards and his ball-handling ability to quickly turn around, take it up court, and find open teammates for scores. He finished with 18 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals.
Nick Ghetie Nick Ghetie 5'11" | PG Lakeridge | 2024 State OR (2023 Lakeridge)
Lakeridge made a comeback in the second half against La Salle and it was Ghetie leading the charge. The senior guard got hot from the outside, hitting four threes in the second half, both of the catch-and-shoot variety and ones he created for himself. Ghetie didn’t just shoot the ball either as he looked to get others involved, finishing with 4 assists to go along with his team-high 21 points.
