Both teams came out firing in the first quarter as the Chargers jumped out to quick lead before the Falcons would respond with a strong ending. Charlie Russell’s 3-pointer at the buzzer would make things 17-15 after 1, giving Jordan a slight lead.
Northwood would come out firing on all cylinders in the second quarter, going on a 15-2 run early to lead 32-19 with 2:24 left in the half. Jordan wouldn’t go away quietly though, as they would respond with a 7-0 run of their own spread-headed by RJ Bridges RJ Bridges 6'4" | CG Jordan | 2023 State NC to bring things within single digits, 32-26.
The Chargers would end the half on a high note on the final possession of the half, using good spacing and ball movement to find Max Frazier Max Frazier 6'8" | C Northwood | 2023 State NC down low for a dunk to lead 34-26 at the half.
Jordan would come out in the third quarter playing a lot more inspired as they began the quarter with a 6-0 run to bring things within two at 34-32. Jordan would take a brief lead at 39-38 before Northwood would come together and respond with a run of their own though led by the playmaking of Drake Powell Drake Powell 6'6" | CG Northwood | 2024 State #8 Nation NC . The Chargers led 43-39 with 4:08 left as things would continue to go back and forth.
A personal run by RJ Bridges RJ Bridges 6'4" | CG Jordan | 2023 State NC to end the quarter would tie things up at 49 entering the final quarter.
Things turned completely around in the fourth quarter for the Chargers. Powell stepped up in a big way once again, finding his teammates for play after play and before you knew it, the score ballooned to 63-51 before Jordan would respond. Northwood would outscore Jordan 27-16 in the final frame to get a 76-65 victory in the end.
With future UNC head coach Hubert Davis in attendance, Powell put on a show. He led the way for them in more ways than one with 24 points and did well to get his guards shots on the perimeter and big men touches down low in the end. He’s a prospect that plays with a ton of energy and makes it easy to see why he’s already committed to the UNC Tar Heels.
Highlights
Frazier continues to improve as an all-around paint presence on both ends of the floor for Northwood. He’s part of a two-headed monster alongside Keenan Parrish that’s capable of carrying this team deep into the playoffs with his ability to finish at the rim and block shots.
Highlights
Parrish is another prospect in the Northwood frontcourt that continues to show his development in the frontcourt. He runs the floor with purpose and has tremendous touch in the post and showed off his strong hands around the rim. He’s improved tremendously over the past 5-6 months and continues to show off his ability in the paint.
Bridges was efficient all-night long as he carried the Jordan High offense with his ability to score and distribute. He finished with 28 points on 10-for-16 shooting along with five assists and three rebounds. He’s an unsigned senior that continues to show he can lead by example for a tough Jordan squad.
Highlights
Knight had a strong showing with his stretch-forward abilities in the Jordan High rotation. He finished with 14 points and six rebounds while knocking down two 3-pointers on the night. He’s an aggressive shooter but as he learns to utilize his size to his advantage and get easy points, he’ll become a lot more lethal for the Falcons. He’s only a freshman!
Ortiz kept the Falcons in the game with his ability to be a presence on the glass. He finished the night with seven rebounds (3 offensive) along with 11 points and three assists to make his impact on the floor. He plays with a never back down style no matter who’s in front of him and continues to show off his growth on the floor.
