The Colts don’t have a lot of weapons and are off to a bit of a rough start. But Burton is doing his best to lead through the adversity. He erupted for 40 points in the Colts’ lone victory of the season, a win over Newton. Burton is scoring 20+ pretty much every night and doing it in impressive fashion.
Derby is off to a 5-0 start against good competition, and it’s been Fisher-Brown (pictured) leading the way. He went for 25 points against the bevy of quality guards from McPherson, and 23 against the guards from Andover Central. He’s averaging about 24 a game and orchestrating a team with several new components. Fisher-Brown has been a good player in past seasons, but he’s taking it to the next level.
Corrales has helped the Falcons to a 3-1 start out of the gate. They will face much stiffer competition after the break, but give them credit for a good start. Corrales is shooting it well from deep, averaging about 15 points.
Highlights
After the show he put on during the summer, it comes as no surprise that Steinmetz is exploding in his senior season. The Buffaloes are off to a 6-0 start. It’s tough to judge the quality of their opponents since they played several Colorado teams in a tournament. But regardless, you can’t argue with the 23 points Steinmetz is averaging, or with the 40% he’s hitting from deep. Garden City is a veteran group worth keeping an eye on.
He’s still laboring in the shadows of a couple of big namers at Wichita Heights, but Wilkins is building rapidly upon his great freshman season. He’s demonstrating he is much more than a long, athletic leaper. He’s showing an emerging set of skills. Wilkins is scoring in double figures most games and is a threat to grab double-digit rebounds as well. And opponents are terrified to attempt a shot when he’s anywhere nearby.
