They defeated Math, Civics & Sciences on Wednesday evening, then suited up against Archbishop Ryan a day later. Thomas Sorber Thomas Sorber 6'9" | C Archbishop Ryan | 2024 State #58 Nation PA wasn’t in action for the Raiders, but it was still a phenomenal game. Here’s how it went:
1st Quarter
After two quick fouls on Jaden Murray Jaden Murray 6'7" | PF Archbishop Ryan | 2024 State PA (6’6 F 2024), STVM’s Darius Stratford Darius Stratford 6'8" | C St. Vincent-St. Mary's | 2023 State OH (6’9 C 2023 and Daniel Ajose (6’6 F 2024) controlled the glass. The extended possessions created opportunities for Jayson Walker (G 2024) who knocked down two 3s and scored 10 points in the period. The Raiders stayed in the fight with Michael “Zaire” Paris Michael “Zaire” Paris 5'11" | CG Archbishop Ryan | 2023 State PA (5’11 G 2023) making plays and Darren Williams Darren Williams 6'4" | SG Archbishop Ryan | 2024 State PA (6’3 G 2024) scoring 8 points on 2 threes and a lay.
16-13, STVM
2nd Quarter
Without taking the lead, the Raiders seemed to gain some momentum by aggressively crashing the boards as a team and breaking STVM’s press. In the halfcourt, their ball movement and cuts created driving lanes as Paris and Williams scored 6 points and 7 points respectively. The emphasis on getting to the cup put STVM in foul trouble. But the Irish were able to keep the Raiders at bay as they down-sized to keep up with AR’s speed, Stratford continued his effectiveness inside, and Kent State-commit Lance Hayes Lance Hayes 6'4" | SG St. Vincent-St. Mary's | 2023 State OH (6’4 G 2023) got going offensively.
33-30, STVM
3rd Quarter
Hayes came alive with 11 points in the period. He grabbed some offensive rebounds for himself and got to his spots inside and outside of the arc. His scoring carried them as some of their second-chance opportunities dried up for everyone else. Ryan Everett (6’0 G 2024), who started in place of Sorber, gave Ryan a spark with a 3 off-the-catch and a couple layups.
49-43, STVM
4th Quarter
Ryan made a strong push early in the final quarter as Williams ran off screens to sink two more 3s. The Raiders were even able to briefly take the lead. On the other hand, Stratford reasserted himself, getting crucial putbacks. Then Kevin Hamilton Kevin Hamilton 5'8" | PG St Vincent St Mary Hs | 2023 State OH (5’6 G 2023) took command of the game, scored 11 of his 16 points and making 7-of-7 from the line to deliver STVM the win.
