The other game was a matchup between Zeeland West and Holland Christian. Zeeland West came out on top 56-41. Let’s look at some player evaluations from these games.
Jones has a deserved reputation as a lockdown defender. Let’s face it, he’s probably one of the top perimeter defenders in the state. In this game however, it was his offensive capabilities that stood out. Jones moved the ball well and did a nice job using both the dribble and the pass to break pressure. He was really impressive taking the ball off the bounce. Jones was quick with the ball and able to wiggle through traffic. This allowed him to drive and dish, where he showed good vision and passing abilities.
Highlights
Sherman was solid in the game against Kalamazoo Central. He’s a really smooth athlete that can get off the ground and was rebounding much bigger than his height in this game. Sherman showed that he can get his shot off in traffic and still hit it at a high percentage. I really liked the way he penetrated the lane but did so unselfishly. Sherman was always looking for a clean kick out to shooters.

The show continues with “The Hutch Ward Hutch Ward 6’8″ | PF Kalamazoo Central | 2023 State MI Explosion: Part 2″. It didn’t really matter how man defenders were sent at him in the game, Ward was going to get his. He started the game doing work down low and quickly moved his game to the outside. Ward was comfortable everywhere offensively, but did particularly great work off the baseline. He’s one of the best catch and shoot 3 point snipers in the state. Ward’s game looks incredibly transferrable to the next level.
Highlights
Steffen really showed up in this game. I don’t have his numbers and don’t need them, because his influence on the game goes so much farther. He’s a reliable and efficient ball handler that really feels the game and let’s it come to him. Steffen showed the ability to score, especially with a contested corner triple that looked confident and pure. He’s a very good passer that can see the floor on a dribble drive and deliver the ball.
Harrison Halbert
Harrison Halbert
Halbert grabbed my attention early. He looked like he was absolutely putting in work. And it was definitely on both ends of the floor. Halbert used his strength well and was comfortable and effective when playing physical. He was doing a really nice job of sliding laterally across the lane to provide help defense in the paint. Offensively, Halbert was able to draw fouls and get to the line.
