Trevon Bradley, 5’7 PG – Winooski High School Class of 2023
It might not have been Tre’s most efficient night scoring wise, but the savvy PG got the job done regardless. Bradley finished with 21 points, five dimes and six steals. Offensively, he gave opponents fits with his shifty handle, using nice change of pace to get defenders off balance in order to blow by. In the second layer he finished looks at the rim with floaters and fed the big man with timely passes. Defensively, Tre was just as active. He pressed ballhandlers, forced turnovers, and prevented guys from getting to their spot. Bradley drove Winooski to the blowout win.
Daniel Surma, 6’6 F – Winooski High School Class of 2023
Surma put together a nice evening, notching a double-double with his 11 points and 11 rebounds. He’s a solid finisher around the rim yet he had a number of looks that he didn’t fall for him. He’s still a little raw with the left hand, but if he becomes a consistent finisher on both sides of the rim he’ll be a problem inside. Nonetheless, he was highly impactful. He cleared the boards with his athleticism and controlled the interior. Surma had seven rejections and affected countless other shots around the paint. Daniel is a highly effective defender and rebounder.
Hassan Hassan, 5’11 G – Winooski High School Class of 2023
It was my first time seeing Hassan hoop and I came away with a number of solid first impressions. First, Hassan’s agility and strength. He hounded ballhandlers full court, picked three pockets, and did well to stay in front. When he did get beat, he showed nice hustle to stay in the play and rotate back into defensive position. In addition, he put up 10 points. Hassan buried a couple threes and finished a couple looks around the cup. Overall, Hassan showed nice two-way ability as Winooski took care of business on the home floor.
Kellen Bourgeois, 6’2 F – Winooski High School Class of 2023
Kellen impressed in a number of ways. First off, Bourgeois showcased his defensive prowess. Kellen has a strong frame plus solid anticipation, and he moved his feet well to cut off driving lanes and cutters. He also reeled in a few rebounds with his aggressive pursuit of the ball. Secondly, Bourgeois displayed nice driving ability. In the halfcourt, Kellen made a number of nice moves to get to the cup and finished through contact. His two-way capabilities and inside/out defensive versatility make him an important piece for WHS.
Elijah Duprey, 6’0 G – Vergennes Union High School Class of 2023
In a clunky night for VUHS, Duprey was one fairly consistent scorer throughout the evening. Elijah led Vergennes with 16 points, most of which came from inside the paint and at the free throw line. Duprey did a nice job getting into the interior with cuts into the post where he finished a few looks and drew fouls. In addition, he had to handle a lot of on-ball pressure from Winooski, and he did well to take care of the ball. Defensively, Elijah worked to contain Winooski’s tough guards with his quickness and length. All in all, he carried a lot of responsibility in this one.
Oakley Francis, 6’2 F – Vergennes Union High School Class of 2024
Oak has a classic feel to his game with his strong interior presence on both ends. He’s an avid rebounder, using his frame and physicality to collect boards in traffic. Additionally, he’s a versatile defender. He showed his ability to command the paint and bother shots, yet in the same possession he can switch out onto the wing and hang with perimeter guys too. Offensively, Oakley was likely Vergennes’ second leading scorer. He finished a few slashes from the wing and notched a couple second chance buckets off of his hustle inside. Francis’ athleticism and work ethic are his key ingredients.
