Once again, we had a ton of games in the Dakotas postponed and canceled on Friday night because of the weather. It was easy to pick which games to watch, we did not have many to choose from!
Prep Hoops Dakota took in two games, one in ND and one in SD. In North Dakota, we had Shanley at West Fargo. In South Dakota, we had #5 Sioux Falls Christian at Elk Point-Jefferson.
ND Score
HALF: Shanley 24 West Fargo 23
FINAL: Shanley 55 West Fargo 59
SD Score
1st: SFC 20 EPJ 10
HALF: SFC 37 EPJ 20
3rd: SFC 54 EPJ 38
FINAL: SFC 59 EPJ 51
He finished with 19 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist. Hakim is very good at getting to the rim and at drawing contact. Hakim’s long arms and athletic measurables allow him to slice and dice to the rim. I really like when he catches, squares up, and attacks with a long, low, and quick first step. He showed awesome effort when Shanley really needed a score in the second half. He refused to be boxed out, he fought and snagged the ball with his long arms. Hakim quickly went up and scored the bucket. Vuciri is always a tough matchup with his size and athletic ability.
Highlights
He finished with 18 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist. There is no question that Kraft is a standout athlete. He scored from 3-point land, mid-lane, and at the rim. Conner is good at changing speeds and he has good handles for a player his size. When Kraft gets in the lane and the defense collapses, he is able to score with a soft floater before the rim gets too congested. Kraft showed off his D1 athleticism when he created a TO and he went coast-to-coast to put down a 1-handed WHAM. Shortly after, Kraft showed extra effort when diving on the floor for a loose ball.
Payton McGregor
Payton McGregor
He finished with 11 points, 3 assists. I liked the looks of his play when pushing the tempo in transition and he made a nice pass to Leal for a score. Payton made some aggressive plays on both ends of the floor. He is a hard worker, at times McGregor even found himself matched up with Kraft. Payton does not back down.
He finished the night with 14 points, 6 rebounds. Talk about a big game for Mr. Fitz! He showed off a good-looking jumper when he cashed in with a catch-n-shoot 3-ball. His biggest shots came late in the game when he knocked down 2 FT’s to ice the game.
He finished the night with 8 points, 13 rebounds, 2 assists. We might have to start calling Leal the “Chairmen of The Boards”. He out-rebounded two legit BIGS from the opposing team. I thought his effort was amazing, he fought for position, and was physical all game long. I like how Tony shapes up to the ball and he knows where to move on the floor to get open. He seems to have good hands. Leal showed great awareness when grabbing a rebound and immediately kicking out to a shooter for a triple. Tony also knocked down some big FT’s late to help the Packers win the game.
He finished the game with 8 points, two triples. I liked the looks of his shot from beyond the arc. Shell has a smooth stroke with a fluid and easy release. Max has potential and the Packers will need his scoring this season.
He finished with 8 points. Easton is very BIG and very strong. He moves well, handles the rock with skill, and he makes plays coast-to-coast. I like the looks of his spin-move and how he uses his pivots. Kempf knows how to create space and he is patient. He is a good passer for his size. Easton made some nice inside-out passes and he also threw a beautiful touch-lob pass to a fronted teammate in the post. I loved how he posted very deep near the basket, spun into the middle, and scored on a lefty AND1. College coaches need to take a hard look at Mr. Kempf.
He finished the game with 14 points. The lefty can do some damage in the screen-n-roll game. Chace is strong and he knows how to get to the line. He is a very strong finisher at the cup. I love how hard Fornia seals. He gets great positioning and his feet are impressive. Chace is going to have a very nice season.
He scored 11 points. I was impressed with his duck-in score and how he creates space for himself. This lefty is a smooth and creative finishing around the basket. I really liked his step-through finish and how Fornia uses his body to shield the defense from the ball. The defender was fronting Evan, he walked them out, his teammate delivered a nice pass, and Fornia finished with ease. He also scored with a physical O-board put back. Evan knocked down a triple and he showed off a smooth 8-foot jumper over a defender on the baseline.
Jakob Scarmon
Jakob Scarmon
He scored 8 points and showed the ability to hit the 3-ball. Jakob was active on the glass and I liked his aggressiveness. Scarmon showed a sweet spin move in front of the rim and he finished with a nice floater. He had a very impressive slash-n-score where he sliced through the defenders and finished athletically at the rim with his inside hand. Scarmon also scored after gathering up a loose ball turnover and he finished before the D could recover and slow him down.
At 6’7″ he is obviously a long player. I thought it was great how Goodbary was high pointing rebounds. He was smart about not bringing the ball down to the smaller players. He impressed me with his catch-n-score in the short corner against the EPJ zone defense. Griffen runs the floor very well and he has a good looking stroke from the FT-line. For such a young player, he makes the game looks easy.
Highlights
He was smoking hot in the first half. Cole is a young gun that can light up the scoreboard. I love his confidence and his demeanor. He nailed multiple 3’s and it did not seem to bother him if there was a hand in his face or if he was out beyond college range. Snyder also scored via slash-n-score and with a steal-n-score. After opposing teams watch this film, they won’t be giving young Mr. Snyder very much room to operate outside the arc.
I was very impressed with how active Bruns was on the glass. He was like a magnet to the ball. He scored with an offensive put back and he hit multiple 3-pointers. Ethan is a difficult matchup with his athleticism and 3-level scoring ability. Bruns showed that he has good court awareness when passing out of the post with a diagonal cross-court pass. It was a bullet and was delivered perfectly. I can not wait to watch Chargers again!
I have heard that Mulder has looked good to start the season and he looked GREAT tonight. Mulder is looking like BIG TIME stock riser! He is a long, athletic, and ubiquitous. Britton knocked down multiple 3-pointers throughout the game. He got red hot in the 2nd quarter. Later in the game, he showed good execution when cashing in a corner-3 on a BLOB. His footwork looked smooth and proper. He scored many times off the bounce and I love how he catches, rips, and is always in attack mode. Mulder finishes well with both hands, is a crisp passer, he creates TO’s, he is a 1-man press break with his handles and speed. From the looks of him on Friday night, Britton Mulder Britton Mulder 6’2″ | SG Sioux Falls Christian | 2025 State SD has all the tools to be a great player.
