SubscribeThe 2022 Dexter Cooley Showcase went off without a hitch this past Saturday afternoon. Take a look at Part II of the standouts from the showcase.
Avila was another hot hand in the White Oak backcourt as their offense put up 66, cooling off a bit after scoring 42 points across the second and third quarters. Avila was responsible for 13 of those points during that spurt, showing off his ability to score off the bounce and knock down shots on the perimeter off the catch. He’s another sophomore to watch in the White Oak rotation.
Spencer was another sophomore guard that stood out with his play in the backcourt for Pinecrest High. He showed his ability to control pace while getting rebounds out of the net and did well to show off his ability to get downhill and finish in the paint. He’s got a bright future in the 2025 class.

Spencer turned heads in the final game of the night for the host Wakefield High with his play down the stretch. He finished with a game-high 24 points while knocking down six 3-pointers. He kept defenders guessing with his ability to operate inside and out as a playmaker and perimeter threat at the forward spot. He’s an unsigned senior that should make some noise in 2022-23.
Yancey was active as ever for the Wakefield Wolverines in their victory. He filled up the stat sheet with 13 points, 13 rebounds and four assists to show off his growth in the backcourt and frontcourt. He’s a versatile presence in the rotation at 6-foot-4 that can operate on the wing and in the post on both ends of the floor with his solid frame. He’s set to turn a corner alongside Spencer in 2022-23.
Burnette was another new face for the Wakefield Wolverines that showed off his ability to play unselfish at the lead guard spot in their victory. He finished that game with seven points, 12 assists, 7 rebounds and three steals to show off his ability as a facilitator. He’s an underrated passer who easily got himself on the radar with his performance at the Dexter Cooley Showcase.
Whitaker impressed once again for Northwood High with his ability to push the pace and knock down the 3-ball. He went 4-of-6 from deep while finishing with 18 points, four rebounds and two assists to pace the offensive attack as they proved to be too much for Millbrook High in the end. He’s a floor general that makes teams pay, whether it’s with his passing or shooting ability worth attention in NC’s 2024 class.
Parrish secured a double-double and proved to be too much down low for Millbrook in the end. He was right behind

‘s 12 rebounds with 10 of his own to go along with 12 points in the paint. He continues to show off his ability to be a presence around the rim on both ends of the floor. Four of his rebounds were of the offensive variety as well. His stock continues to rise in the 2023 class.
Frazier was another presence in the Northwood frontcourt that gave the Wildcats fits in the win. He finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists, showing off his ability to find his teammates in openings in the high post and post area for buckets. He’s another unsigned big man that should gain traction soon on the recruiting trail.
