Indiana is full of great teams and talented players thus giving the fans incredible matchups every week. Join me, Kyler Staley, every Monday during the season as I preview the 3 Players, 3 Teams, and 3 Matchups to watch for that coming week. Are you ready? Let’s get started!
3 Players
Carson is one of the best 2023s left on the board and has been having a solid year for Anderson so far this season. He is strong, physical guard that is one of the best pure scorers in the state. The lefty can create his own scoring opportunities and plays with so much confidence. Schools at all levels should be watching him if they need scoring. He and Anderson will travel to Northeastern on 12/22
When it comes to stretch fours, Harvey is one of the best in the state. Extremely tall and his shooting stroke from behind the arc is incredibly smooth. Overall smart player that can cause havoc both at the wing and inside. Big week for Harvey and Seton Catholic with University tonight and the Franklin County Tournament on 12/22.
Moving down to to southern Indiana, another very talented four in the state is Brownstown’s Colby Hall Colby Hall 6'6" | PF Brownstown Central | 2025 State IN . He is also another power forward that can cause a bunch of damage in both the inside and on the wing as well. Very strong player with a great motor for his size and have been a great addition to the Braves this season. Look for Hall to have a big week at the North Daviess Tournament starting on 11/21 when Brownstown takes on Loogootee.
3 Teams
Ben Davis (4A): It is pretty clear and obvious now, the Giants are the best team in 4A and the state overall. At 9-0, Zane Doughty Zane Doughty 6'8" | C Ben Davis | 2023 State IN and Ben Davis have beaten very talented teams such as Fishers, Zionsville, Cathedral, Kokomo, and many others. The talent from top to bottom on this team can contribute and guys like Sheridan Sharp Sheridan Sharp 6'2" | PG Ben Davis | 2023 State IN , Clay Butler Clay Butler 6'1" | PG Ben Davis | 2023 State IN , and K.J Windham have been fantastic all season. Look for them to push to 10-0 when they place a depleted Lawrence Central team on 12/21.
West Noble (3A): Another undefeated team that has looked really good this season is the West Noble Chargers, who have quickly been one of the top teams in the northern Indiana area. Lead by senior guard, and Bethel commit, Austin Cripe Austin Cripe 6'3" | SG West Noble | 2023 State IN , the Chargers have taken care of business against teams that don’t matchup talent wise with them. This is a very experienced team that should continue to make the climb in 3A. They will be tested by Prairie Heights on 12/22.
Providence (2A): The reigning 2A state champs have had a up-and-down year so far sitting at 3-2. They are coming off their biggest win of the season vs. 4A Floyd Central so that may be able to build some momentum moving forward. This is a senior lead team and the best player for them is 2023 SG Casey Kaelin Casey Kaelin 6'2" | SG Providence | 2023 State IN . We will see if that win over Floyd Central will give them that boost to beat a very solid Evansville Memorial on 12/20.
3 Matchups
North Daviess Tournament– Dec. 21st-23rd: Holiday tournaments are about to get going and we have big one in southern Indiana to help kick things off for us. This tournament will take place 12/21-12/23 and will feature some talented players such as: Gage Sefton Gage Sefton 6'4" | SG Blackhawk Christian | 2023 State IN , Josh Furst Josh Furst 6'6" | C Blackhawk Christian | 2023 State IN , Jack Benter Jack Benter 6'4" | SG Brownstown Central | 2024 State #121 Nation IN , Colby Hall Colby Hall 6'6" | PF Brownstown Central | 2025 State IN , Peyton Bledsoe Peyton Bledsoe 6'4" | SF Loogootee | 2023 State IN , Jaylen Mullen Jaylen Mullen 6'0" | PG North Daviess | 2023 State IN , and a bunch of others. Below is the full schedule:
North Daviess Tournament
Fort Wayne Blackhawk vs. Evansville Christian – 3:30 pm
Brownstown Central vs. Loogootee – 8:00 pm
Paoli vs. South Knox – 5:00 pm
Forest Park at North Daviess – 6:30 pm
Zionsville (4A) at Kokomo (4A) – Dec. 20th, 7:30 pm: Every time Flory Bidunga Flory Bidunga 6'9" | C Kokomo | 2024 State #7 Nation IN plays a team that has a bunch of talent on the other side, it is always going to be a game to watch for each week. There will be three D1 players on the floor in this one with Bidunga, Logan Imes Logan Imes 6'4" | PG Zionsville | 2023 State #202 Nation IN , and Nick Richart Nick Richart 6'9" | PF Zionsville | 2023 State IN . While it is expected that Imes will be get his, the matchup between Bidunga and Richart is really intriguing as you have two of the best centers in the start going at it. Overall, Zionsville is the more talented team and if the Eagles can contain everybody else besides Bidunga, they should win this one.
Lebanon (3A) at Guerin Catholic (3A) – Dec. 22nd, 7:30 pm: This one should be a fun one at the 3A level with 6-1 Lebanon Tigers traveling to the 4-3 Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles. To me, Guerin Catholic has a little bit to prove as they have not had the season that I thought they would have thus far. On Lebanon’s side, they have just a little bit more experience than Guerin does with Kayden Sloggett Kayden Sloggett 6'0" | SG Lebanon | 2023 IN and Korbyn Sloggett Korbyn Sloggett 6'0" | SG Lebanon | 2023 State IN leading the charge there. However, I don’t see anybody on Lebanon being able to stop Dylan Murans Dylan Murans 6'7" | SF Guerin Catholic | 2024 State IN so I like the Golden Eagles to get a big win here.
