Conference Commentary
Top Ten in State: Caledonia, PEM
PEM and Caledonia are top ten teams, but in different situations. PEM has their two best players back and they are all league talents (Stevens and Peters) but there are about six seniors from last season that have to be replaced as role players. On the flip side, Caledonia has young players and some role players back, and many are talented, but the star power that made a state run in big roles, that has to be replaced by a nice core of guards. Both teams can make a run, but both may have some growing pains.
Top Ten in State Potential: La Crescent-Hokah, Rushford-Peterson, Chatfield
Led by Carter Todd Carter Todd 6'4" | SF La Crescent | 2023 State MN , La Crescent-Hokah should be a team that if the chemistry works, they could have a great season. There are other role talents back too so if they gel a great season could occur. Rushford-Peterson is in a similar spot to La Crescent with Dawson Bunke Dawson Bunke 6'5" | PF Rushford-Peterson | 2024 State MN leading the way and enough returning players back to be strong once again. Chatfield is the wild card. They were 17-11 last season but have a great amount of talent returning this season. Chatfield will be one of the deeper teams in the league.
Compete with Most: Fillmore Central, Winona Cotter
Fillmore Central could take a really big step this season with their all league scorer Jayce Kiehne Jayce Kiehne 6'3" | SG Fillmore Central | 2024 State MN . They should certainly improve to at least .500. Winona Cotter won just seven games last season and while we don’t know that they will win a lot more games, they should be a tougher team to play with each night.
Rebuilding: Dover-Eyota, Lewiston-Altura
Dover-Eyota is in a restart with a new staff while Lewiston-Altura will have a much different roster that will have to find it’s way without the luxury of much experience from last season.
