Continue ReadingThe 2022-23 Inter-Ac season will have an extremely familiar look and feel to it as all five players from last year’s post season 1st Team All-Inter-Ac squad return for another year of high school hoops action. Plus, a returning 2nd Team all-league selection from last year has developed into a nationally ranked recruit. All this returning talent should make the 2021-22 Inter-Ac POY race a wide-open contest.
Below is a preview of six players (Presented in alphabetical order.) who we consider the front runners to win the 2022-23 Inter-Ac Player of the Year award.
Alassane Amadou Alassane Amadou 6'9" | PF SCH Academy | 2023 State #188 Nation PA – 6’9” / Senior / SCH Academy / Philly Pride National / Small Forward: One could argue that Amadou is the SEPA prospect (regardless of class) who posted the biggest recruiting stock rise over the last year. So, it would be fitting if this now nationally ranked Marquette commit jumped from 2nd team All-Inter-Ac in 2021-22 to POY in 2022-23. His continually improving perimeter shot and fearless style of play make Amadou unstoppable. At the other end he is an intimidating shot blocker. We anticipate that the development of Amadou’s game will continue and this season he will dominante the league. Thus, Amadou is our betting favorite to win 2022-23 Inter-Ac POY.
Camden Burns Camden Burns 6'0" | CG SCH Academy | 2024 State PA – 5’11” / Senior / SCH Academy / NJ Scholars Elite / Combo Guard: Last season at SCHA this mid-range assassin proved that he has developed into a complete offensive player. Burns now drain threes all day and is an underrated distributor. But make no mistake, he still excels at using his dribble-drive (with either hand), stopping on a dime, and then knocking down jumpers. In 2021-22 he averaged 14 points, 4 assists and 4 rebounds per game. After last season Bruns was a 1st Team All-Inter-Ac and All-City selection.
Mark Butler Mark Butler 5'10" | PG William Penn Charter | 2023 State PA – 6’0” / Senior / Penn Charter / Philly Pride National / Combo Guard: The reigning Inter-Ac POY and Lafayette College commit is an elite ball handling guard with a smooth jump shot. With his quickness and handles Butler (13.5 ppg. last season) gets into the paint easily where he can score through contact or kick the ball to an open three-point shooter. If opponents sag off Butler, he will splash threes all game. His 25 points and 6 assists performance vs. Malvern Prep from last January still has hoop heads talking. Butler’s high motor and lateral quickness make him a plus defender.
Kevin McCarthy Kevin McCarthy 6'4" | SG Episcopal Academy | 2024 State PA – 6’4” / Junior / Episcopal Academy / Philly Revolution / Wing: McCarthy followed his breakout 2020-21 season, with an even better sophomore year. In 2022-23 he posted 15 ppg.; drained 67 threes and was named as a 1st Team All-Inter-Ac and 3rd Team All-State selection. Obviously, McCarthy is lethal from behind the arc. But his solid handles and ability to finish through contact with either hand make him an effective scoring threat off the dribble too. McCarthy is versatile enough that he can also run as a point guard if needed. He holds an offer from FGCU.
Andrew Phillips Andrew Phillips 6'3" | SF Malvern Prep | 2023 State PA – 6’4” / Senior / Malvern Prep / Gibbs Elite / Wing: In 2021-22 this physical (200 lbs.) and extremely athletic prospect averaged 15.5 points to go with 5.3 rebounds per contest and was named 1st Team All-Inter-Ac. Phillips’ aggressive style and versatility make him an inside/outside scoring threat. He is comfortable operating on the interior, in the mid-range and behind the arc as a high percentage 3-point shooter. As a bonus to his scoring, Phillips is a plus defender who led MP in steals last season.
Ryan Williams Ryan Williams 6'3" | SG Malvern Prep | 2024 State PA – 6’1” / Junior / Malvern Prep / Philly Pride National / Point Guard: We have been following Williams for years. So last season he took the Inter-Ac by storm, we were not surprised. He is an electric scoring point guard with filthy handles and a super quick first step. He is a true 3-level scorer who has grabbed the attention of college coaches. In 2021-22 Williams led the Inter-Ac in scoring (19 ppg.) and was a 1st Team All-Inter-Ac selection. In addition to scoring, Williams is a high IQ guard who will distribute to teammates. He holds offers from Temple, Penn, Drexel, Albay, Fairfield and Towson.
