Readers, the start of high school basketball is upon us at last!! On November 12th, I took a trip to the RCS Sports Season Opener to scout out some elite level talent and I came back with plenty of results…this article will be split into 3 parts covering some of the underrated and efficient talent the Houston basketball scene has to offer this season, so stick with me and let us dive in!!

Keylon Dorsey- Eisenhower High School (2023)

Keylon Dorsey showed up and showed out in the first of many games on Saturday at the Season Opener!! His Eisenhower squad had a tough contest against a deep St. Thomas squad, but Dorsey was able to showcase his skills in full effect no matter who was guarding him. Keylon is a recent commit to Sam Houston State and made sure to make a strong case for himself as a top player in the 2023 class of Houston. He was effective on the offensive end, pulling up and hitting many of his shots from the midrange and was also a marksman from three point range. Keylon Dorsey will be remembered as one of the greatest 2023 hoopers to come out of Houston when all is said and done by the end of his senior season!

Justin Mitchell- Fort Bend Elkins High School (2024)

Justin played a major role for his Knights team in their blowout win over Episcopal on Saturday morning. Mitchell knocked down several shots from long range, even with defenders closing out on him in close proximity. Justin was also adept at always finding the open teammate and making the one extra pass needed for a critical bucket. He will look to fill a starting role in the backcourt this year for Elkins with teammates [player_tooltip player_id='1228214' first='Todd' last='Woods'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1217196' first='Jae'Coby' last='Osborne']. Mitchell also showed off great court awareness on the defensive end, being very vocal and always letting his teammates know where he was on the court. Justin came away with at least 4-5 steals for easy fastbreak layups in this contest and will continue to be a presence to be reckoned with in district play!

Christopher Barnett- Fort Bend Elkins High School (2023)

Barnett showed himself on Saturday to be one of the more dominant big men in the post this tournament. Chris just had his way with whoever was guarding him in the game against Episcopal, using a complete arsenal of post moves to constantly gain position on his defender and either lay the ball up for an easy 2 points or finish with an acrobatic move over the coverage. Barnett was also efficient from the foul stripe, knocking down many of his and-1 opportunities and coming away with big plays at both ends of the court. His athleticism was shown off at the defensive end when he would rise up and send away opponents shots at the basket, usually coming down with the clutch rebound as well. Elkins is looking more and more like a super deep and complete team this year every time they take the court!

Noah Martin- Cypress Creek High School (2023)

Noah continues to showcase why he is known as one of the best 2023 sharpshooters in the city of Houston this year as he was exceptionally on point from beyond the arc in his team's contest against Barbers Hill, getting at least three to four of his three pointers to drop down the stretch to help lead his Cougars to victory. As if being a knockdown sniper wasn't enough, Noah also showed that he is willing to drive the ball to the rim against contact as well, using his length and wingspan to finish over defenders outstretched arms. Martin has exceptional footwork on the defensive end of the court as well, never afraid to be physical with his matchup and constantly being a menace with intense deny ball defensive pressure. Noah recently pledged his commitment to Southern Nazarene for next season and will continue to prove he is a clutch shooter at the collegiate level after this season has concluded!
