There are a few seniors who will continue to headline the Kansas City scene: Grant Stubblefield Grant Stubblefield 6'2" | PG Blue Valley Northwest | 2023 State KS from Blue Valley Northwest, Jason Rodriguez Jason Rodriguez 5'10" | PG Bishop Miege | 2023 State KS from KC Harmon, Aidan Wing Aidan Wing 6'4" | SF Bishop Miege | 2023 State KS from Miege and Will Rost Will Rost 6'3" | SG Aquinas | 2023 State KS from Aquinas. But let’s look at some other seniors who should be big this year.
Here are five Kansas City seniors who will be in the spotlight (in alphabetical order):
Evans earned some all-state recognition in 3A after racking up some impressive stats from the point guard spot. His 7 assists per game got his team going, and his 16 points per game was a big boost. The Chargers went 15-7 against some pretty stout competition. And with Evans and fellow senior Blake Hekman Blake Hekman 6’2″ | SG Heritage Christian Academy | 2023 KS back, the Olathe private school could have a big year.
Hawthorne is back to build on a great junior season. He led his team to third place in the 5A tournament and racked up 50 points in three state playoff games. With Sam Somerhalder gone to graduation, Hawthorne will be the leader. He averaged 4.5 assists and can score and defend too.
Kisling (pictured) exploded late last season for Olathe West. At the playoffs, he shot the lights out and opened eyes. He lit Lawrence up for 38 points to advance to 6A state. He poured in 26 in a win over Dodge City. This guy only needs a sliver of space to get his shot off and he’s deadly from deep.
This guy is long and powerful and can finish with authority. He can put it on the floor to get to a shot and has the agility to defend in transition, on the perimeter and in the paint. His physicality led to a really fine football season this year too.
Highlights
Sullivan had an impressive summer and will be a big man to watch this season. He’s deadly on the block, finishing with both hands and hitting from a variety of angles. He’s powerful and runs like a freight train in transition. He blocks shots at a high clip too.
