There has been a lot said about the top ten players in the class of 2024. Even with the press and offers surrounding them, the class is deeper than just those players. The shooting guards in this class are some of the most athletic shooters and scorers we have had as a collective in awhile. The top 10 at that position are examples of that. In this Prep Hoops exclusive, we will take a look at the top ten shooting guards in the class as we move closer and closer to the beginning of the season.

1. [player_tooltip player_id='1277352' first='Keith' last='Jones'] (6'4" | Edna Karr)

Jones is as versatile as they come on both ends of the floor. He can attack the rim from the top of the key or the wings and he is very good at finishing when he gets to the rack. Jones has one of the best strokes from deep that we have in the Louisiana prep game. His defense is top tier as well. He has made blocks and key stops with his man-to-man defense. Jones is more than a "3 & D" player and he shows that when he is on the floor.

2. [player_tooltip player_id='1218217' first='Josh' last='Smith'] (6'2" | Madsion Prep)

Smith is one of the most aggressive and athletic players in the state. The Charger lefty can drive left or right and he attacks the rim from both wings. Smith is very good when it comes to finishing in transition. Whether it is from a steal and score or filling the wing on the break, Smith is known for hammering it down. He also has a good touch from three which makes Smith a scorer who can get it done from all levels.

3. [player_tooltip player_id='1218194' first='Jaylin' last='Johnson'] (6'3" | Alexandria High)

While he is a high flying wide out on the gridiron, he is a high flyer on the hardwood as well. Johnson has a similar game to the player just above him with a bit of flair. When he gets on the floor, Johnson can change the game at a moments notice. He is good with reading passing lanes and causing turnovers. In the open floor, he is almost unstoppable as well. If Johnson is consistent with his outside shot, he may be an all-state player this year.

4. [player_tooltip player_id='1218214' first='Andre' last='Sowell'] (6'2" | Lakeview)

One of the signs of a good player is that you can tell the difference when they are not on the floor. While the Lakeview Gators are very good when he is not on the floor, Sowell makes a big difference when he plays. He is a player who can get from the three point line to the rim quickly. If he has an open lane, defenders should step out of the way. Sowell, is explosive and a good defender. When he is on, he is a hard player to corral.

5. [player_tooltip player_id='1105548' first='Michael' last='Mouton'] (6'3" | St. Thomas More)

Mouton has become an inside and outside threat going into his junior season at STM. He is a player who has the ability to rebound and push when he gets the ball and he is good on the offensive boards. Where he is most dangerous is outside of the arc. Mouton can nail threes from all parts of the floor and has a high, quick, and consistent release. He is a player defenses cannot leave open because he will burn teams repeatedly.

6. [player_tooltip player_id='1387997' first='Davonte' last='Landry'] (6'3" | Sophie B. Wright)

Davonte is more than a shooter. However, shooting is something that he does very well. Landry does not gain a lot of lift when he shoots. His release is quick and he flows into his shooting motion so fast, defenders have a hard time contesting. When he attacks the rim, he has an array of finishes with either hand that make those hard to block as well. Landry is a player who has a ton of potential and is only getting better.

7. [player_tooltip player_id='1434766' first='Jeremiah' last='Lewis'] (6'1" | Ponchatoula)

Lewis is a player who burst onto the scene this summer and he probably is not going anywhere. Lewis has a very quick release and is like a microwave when that first one drops. He is also a player who excels in transition. Lewis can finish above the rim and through contact on a regular basis. His combination of shooting and driving makes him a hard player to defend when he is on the floor.

8. [player_tooltip player_id='1105551' first='Jyrin' last='Sowell'] (6'3" | Captain Shreve)

Sowell has left the football field to focus solely on the hardwood this coming season. He was already a tough defender who frustrated guards and bigs with his athleticism and strength. With his extra time in the gym, he has now become a better three point shooter and post player. Sowell, is probably the best rebounder and defender on this list. When his offense improves, he will be hard to stop.

9. [player_tooltip player_id='1479617' first='Demichael' last='Chew'] (6'3" | Peabody)

Chew made a name for himself on the Prep Hoops circuit this summer. If he continues to shout the ball the way he did there, defenses will have a lot of long nights when he is on. Chew is good a flowing to open areas and reading defenses to get open shots. He is also very good at spotting up in transition preparing his feet early. His shooting will help Peabody big time this season.

10. [player_tooltip player_id='1218185' first='Hays' last='Regard'] (6'3" | St. Thomas More)

Regard is one of those underrated players that we have in Louisiana that can probably go out and get his team 20 on any given night. He is more athletic than people think and he can score the rock in various ways. Regard is a very good shooter who can attack the rim and rebound in traffic. His ability to do multiple things on the floor makes him a threat from all over. Another STM weapon.

There are an abundance of shooters in Louisiana. While this group may not be as well known, they are just as good as a lot of the top ten groups we have in the Boot. This group may surprise a lot of people with their play this season.
