Young was one of my favorite players to watch as he catches your eye with his long frame. Scrawny compared to others, but plays hard on the defensive end of the floor. Liked to take the midrange shot when he had the look, even though it wasn’t falling. Young appears to be raw in some facets of his game, but he could turn into a priority prospect for small colleges.
Thrapp was impressive in the expo showing he could compete with older players and facilitate an offense. Crisp passes and pretty good decision making. Certainly has some areas needing improvement, but much of this is his youth and should improve as he matures and gets older.
Smith might have been the top performing prospect overall from Central Ohio. A new name for me to evaluate, Smith does the intangibles which stands out even more than normal in a showcase setting like this. Sets good screens and was great in pick-and-roll situations. Listed as a SF, but played more like a PF with his seals on the block and shot selection over the shoulder. Smith is joining a Marysville team returning some size and can see his role really improve.
Collins was one of the younger prospects from Central Ohio I evaluated although he wasn’t able to display his shooting ability Saturday. Instead of scoring, Collins did things to help teammates, including setting ball screens on the pass. Tight handle and overall a good backcourt option for any team. Should see some solid numbers with Coffman as a scoring option on the wing.
Collins was one of the few prospects entering the expo already committed as the Utica senior is committed to Delta State. He showed exactly why he’s one of the best players with an offensive showing to remember in the last game of the day. Finishes through contact and blew by guys with an explosive first step. Sliced and diced defenders and used his slightly bigger body to overpower smaller defenders.
