We have been hitting the road hard over the past few weeks visiting open gyms across the state to begin previewing the upcoming season. I’m out of town this week so while I’m not able to hit in-state open gyms I wanted to begin highlighting some of the top uncommitted senior prospects entering this season. There are still players available for college coaches at any and all levels. Be sure to check out Part One, Part Two, Part Three, and Part Four of this series as well. We have also highlighted six additional point guard prospects still looking for college homes, six additional shooting guards, and now also six more small forwards. In this article we will dive deeper into the power forward position.
Alex Romack Alex Romack 6'6" | PF Westfield | 2023 State IN (Westfield H.S. 2023): Ranked as the #45 prospect in the Class of 2023 by Prep Hoops Indiana. Holds an offer from Hope College. Romack really burst onto the scene this summer showing off his versatile offensive skill set. The 6’6″ forward has great physical strength while maintaining his mobility and athleticism. Drives it well in closeout situations, has strong post moves inside, and rebounds at a high level. Earned interest from a variety of levels by the end of the summer. Has the size and skill to play at the Division II level. No-brainer in my opinion for high level DIII’s or in-state NAIA programs.
Josh Furst Josh Furst 6'6" | C Blackhawk Christian | 2023 State IN (Blackhawk Christian 2023): Ranked as the #48 prospect in the Class of 2023 by Prep Hoops Indiana. Holds an offer from Saint Francis. This 6’6″ forward just gets better and better with every evaluation. Furst’s back to the basket game is very polished with a variety of post moves. He is a high percentage finisher when he gets a catch on the block. Furst also is a good rim-runner and roll man with the quickness to get separation from bigger defenders. Definitely can see him at the NAIA level.
Grant Leeper Grant Leeper 6'7" | C Homestead | 2023 State IN (Homestead H.S. 2023): Ranked as the #49 prospect in the Class of 2023 by Prep Hoops Indiana. Holds basketball offers from Hope and Goshen along with a number of football offers. May end up being a football guy at the next level. Leeper is 6’7″ with great physical tools. He gets off of the floor quickly to rebound or finish at the rim, runs the floor very well, and can move his feet out on the perimeter defensively. One of the better defense and rebounding guys at the position in the class. Definite scholarship level prospect on the basketball floor.
Jared Bonds Jared Bonds 6'5" | PF Carmel | 2023 State IN (Carmel H.S. 2023): Ranked as the #51 prospect in the Class of 2023 by Prep Hoops Indiana. Holds an offer from Judson University. Super long, athletic forward that has the ability to swing out to the wing in certain lineups. Bonds is at his best when using his athleticism in transition, crashing the offensive glass, cutting off of the ball, or attacking closeouts on the perimeter. Would be a face-up, drive first 4-man at the next level. Very, very athletic. High level Division III prospect who could easily earn some more scholarship opportunities throughout the season.
Jayden Pinkston Jayden Pinkston 6'6" | PF Southport | 2023 State IN (Southport H.S. 2023): Ranked as the #52 prospect in the Class of 2023 by Prep Hoops Indiana. This is another forward who can easily slid down and play out on the wing depending on what your team needs. One of the most purely athletic prospects in the class. Pinkston is 6’6″ with long arms and explosive leaping ability. He can get up and finish above the rim at the end of his drives and will sky above others for rebounds. One that DIII/NAIA coaches need to follow closely during his senior season at Southport after transferring from Tindley.
Reph Stevenson Reph Stevenson 6'7" | PF Hamilton Southeastern | 2023 State IN (Hamilton Southeastern H.S. 2023): Ranked as the #53 prospect in the Class of 2023 by Prep Hoops Indiana. Holds an offer from Depauw with a good amount of other DIII/NAIA interest. High academic prospect. Stevenson is a 6’7″ forward with great length and a ton of upside to his game. He is mobile around the basket and when rim-running in transition. He is great when catching the ball around the elbow and taking one or two dribble drives to his right hand. High motor on both ends of the floor as well. I think NAIA offers will come during his senior year, but definitely a high level Division III prospect.
