Basketball for Class C and Class B in Louisiana will begin on Halloween (10/31). With the round ball hitting the hardwood again, this is the time of year where I look at the landscape of these classes and give my preseason all-state teams. There are some very good players at this level and deserve this preseason recognition they will be receiving. So, in this PHLA exclusive, we will take a look at my preseason all-state selections for Class C in Louisiana.

*Both teams will be placed in alphabetical order

1st Team

[player_tooltip player_id='1213621' first='Brady' last='Alexander'] (6'2" | Hornbeck)

[player_tooltip player_id='1213623' first='Derwin' last='Ancar'] (6'3" | Phoenix)

[player_tooltip player_id='1213567' first='Terrance' last='James'] (6'4" | Gibsland-Coleman)

[player_tooltip player_id='1215774' first='Titus' last='Malone'] (6'2" | Saline)

Chance Martin (5'11" | Family Christian)

The first team selections are not only some of the best in their class, they are arguably some of the better players in the state. [player_tooltip player_id='1213623' first='Derwin' last='Ancar'], the high flying guard from Phoenix, has posted 20 point scoring seasons the last two seasons and will be poised to score that much again. [player_tooltip player_id='1213567' first='Terrance' last='James'] is a top 20 player in the state and was a first team selection at the end of the season. He is another player primed to help his team return to Marsh Madness. [player_tooltip player_id='1213621' first='Brady' last='Alexander'] is one of the best inside-outside threats in Class C. Hornbeck is historically good and he will be the leader of that team this year. Chance Martin was one of the key figures in helping Family Christian hoist the Division V championship last season. His ability to score, distribute, and rebound is why I think he is first team material. Rounding out the first team is Saline guard [player_tooltip player_id='1215774' first='Titus' last='Malone']. The high flying guard can put up big numbers. With Saline moving to a new district and dropping down to Class C, he may have a senior season to remember.

2nd Team

[player_tooltip player_id='1627548' first='A.J.' last='Allen'] (6'3" | Claiborne Christian)

[player_tooltip player_id='1218184' first='Michael' last='Bougere'] (5'8" | Jehovah-Jireh)

Treyen Johnson (5'11" | Plainview)

Brandon Smith (6'2" | Atlanta)

[player_tooltip player_id='1273367' first='Landon' last='Strother'] (6'2" | Fairview)

The second team is full of all-state caliber players who are taking on new responsibilities with their respective teams. Their new responsibilities should help them flourish to new heights this year. [player_tooltip player_id='1627548' first='A.J.' last='Allen'] is the first of them. He is a senior shooting guard who can put up big numbers from deep. Under new coach Josh Brown, he will get that chance. [player_tooltip player_id='1218184' first='Michael' last='Bougere'] will be the new lead guard for Jehovah-Jireh and his ability to shoot and facilitate will have him being one of the best players in Class C. Plainview senior point guard Treyen Johnson is a guard who uses the dribble to get to his spots. The ease with which he does this will see him have another big year. Brandon Smith of Atlanta may be a typical Class C big man (which is an undersized wing). However, his rebounding and open floor play is why this senior deserves this second team nod. Rounding out the crew is shooting guard [player_tooltip player_id='1273367' first='Landon' last='Strother']. The Fairview guard can make things happen on both ends of the floor and is deserving of this second team selection.
