Indiana High School Basketball teams are now allowed two on court days a week and we take that opportunity to start previewing the upcoming season. Through the first two weeks of my journey across the state I visited Fishers, North Central, Avon, Connersville, Kokomo, Cathedral, Franklin, and Crispus Attucks. To begin the third week of travels I took in a workout at Ben Davis High School on Monday afternoon and then made the short trip from my house to Richmond High School on Wednesday afternoon. On Thursday, I started with my first of three open gyms at Zionsville and then moved to Carmel in the afternoon before finally wrapping the day up at Bishop Chatard. Let’s dive into the Trojans.
Roster Breakdown
Head Coach Kenny Roseman will have a lot of production to replace from his team that went 16-8 a year ago. Graduating seven seniors, including leading scorer A.J. Roseman, will not be easy to overcome. However, there is still some talent in the building include freshman point guard Ethan Roseman Ethan Roseman 6'0" | PG Bishop Chatard | 2026 State IN who will make an immediate contribution. Last season’s second leading scorer, Robert Davidson Robert Davidson 6'4" | SF Bishop Chatard | 2023 State IN , is also back giving a talented, veteran presence. Thursday night’s workout didn’t give the most insight into what the Trojans will look like this season either as many of their rotation pieces are playing for their potential state championship caliber football team. It still was a good early look into what Roseman and Davidson can break to the table this year.
Despite being just a freshman, you can expect Ethan Roseman Ethan Roseman 6'0" | PG Bishop Chatard | 2026 State IN to be a primary piece from day one. The talented point guard has an excellent mid-range game and is a very skilled passer. It is probably unfair to expect him to fully fill in his brothers shoes right away, but he certainly will help to ease the transition. The 6’4″ Robert Davidson Robert Davidson 6'4" | SF Bishop Chatard | 2023 State IN was a double-figure scorer a year ago and will look to expand his role even further as a senior. He is an excellent athlete, a skilled driver, and has flashed some improved shooting ability out to three-point range. Bishop Chatard will go as these two go, especially early in the year as the rest of the roles are still being defined and players transition from football to basketball.
Due to having seven senior contributors last season, the Trojans simply didn’t have to play many other players in the rotation. However, senior guard Sam Lewis Sam Lewis 5'7" | PG Bishop Chatard | 2023 IN , senior wing Drew Knapp Drew Knapp 6'4" | SF Bishop Chatard | 2023 IN , junior guard Colin Guy Colin Guy 6'0" | PG Bishop Chatard | 2024 IN , and junior guard Scotty Semler have all contributed at the varsity level in the past. That group will be heavily leaned upon this season to expand their roles and became primary pieces. 6’3″ senior Wade McAllister has the most varsity experience of the other returning players after averaging just shy of four points per game off the bench as a junior.
Outlook
Anytime you have to replace seven seniors there are going to be some growing pains. That transition can be made even tougher when relying heavily on a freshman at the point guard position. However, Ethan Roseman Ethan Roseman 6'0" | PG Bishop Chatard | 2026 State IN appears more than ready for big time high school basketball and there is enough talent still around him that the Trojans don’t necessarily have to feel like a step backward is inevitable. Sectional 27 got even tougher this offseason with Heritage Christian moving to Class 3A, but Bishop Chatard will likely have something to say about the outcome by the time March rolls around. Look for a big senior season from the ever-improving Robert Davidson Robert Davidson 6'4" | SF Bishop Chatard | 2023 State IN and don’t be surprised if the Trojans surprise some people throughout the year.
