This Hispanic American middle school/high school invite only camp was put on by Coach Randy of Steam Ahead Basketball. It was definitely a great atmosphere for some good runs and scrimmages ahead of the UIL regular season. Let’s look at some top players who stood out from the pack at the camp!!!
Angelo Reyes Angelo Reyes 5'11" | SG Cypress Park | 2025 TX – Cypress Park High School (2025)
Reyes put on an impressive display why he is one of the best guards in the city on Saturday night. Angelo showed his ability to take care of the ball and run the two guard spot effectively, while maintaining pace of the offense. Reyes was able to knock down jumpers from beyond the arc and also showed great court awareness. He has tremendous athleticism when attacking the basket and was able to easily maneuver past opposing defenders to get to his sweet spots. Look for Angelo Reyes Angelo Reyes 5'11" | SG Cypress Park | 2025 TX to take a big step forward this year on an experienced Cypress Park team!!
Jex Bido- Cypress Park High School (2024)
Bido was able to stand out from the rest of the hoopers at the camp as an elite big man prospect, working his way around the paint for some easy layups and putbacks over the defense. Jex was also able to bring the ball out to the perimeter and reset the offense when needed, showing off his ballhandling and ability to drive effectively to the rim. Jex stood out in the scrimmages due to the fact that he was displaying every post move in his arsenal, showing his offensive capability.
Ashton Fitzwater-Cypress Springs High School (2025)
Despite being on the shorter side, Ashton was able to establish himself as one of the top guards at the camp showcase games. Fitzwater showed top level catch and shoot ability everywhere on the court and was able to dish no look passes to his teammates due to his great court vision. He was also exceptionally quick on defense and was able to lock up his matchup, notching about 3-4 steals per game. Ashton will look to prove himself on a physical/aggressive Cypress Springs team this year!
Marcelo Goldberg- Seven Lakes High School (2026)
Goldberg showed his effectiveness down low in the all star game, easily using his size and strength to post up opponents and get easy layups. Marcelo was never afraid to make the extra pass out of the post when double teamed, often kicking to an open teammate in the corner for a knockdown jumper. He also showed patience on the defensive end, waiting for his opponent to shoot, and sending their shot to the moon. Marcelo was good about not biting on pump fakes and demonstrated exceptional lateral quickness for a big man. He will look to make an impact on an extremely experienced Seven Lakes squad looking to make a deep playoff run.
Joshua Tejeda- Bridgeland High School (2024)
Tejeda was an expert at getting to the open spot on the court on the offensive end and being patient while waiting for his teammates to feed him the ball. Josh also showed effectiveness at driving to the basket and using euro steps and hop steps to his advantage. Joshua was a great jump shooter when left open, often knocking down the shot when his opponents left him too much space and shows much promise on the defensive end, never afraid to get aggressive with his matchup.
