District 11 Notebook (4A)

Middle Tennessee is littered with powerful programs, and several are in the D11-4A District. Brentwood returns a District MVP in Daniel Cochran Daniel Cochran 6'7" | SF Brentwood | 2024 State TN . Franklin High added an elite transfer. John Overton is lead by a future college guard in Donovan Bender Donovan Bender 6'1" | PG John Overton | 2023 State TN . Hillsboro’s Cortez Graham Cortez Graham 6'4" | PG Hillsboro | 2025 State TN is ready to be a 15+ point per game scorer at the varsity level, after a great AAU season.

During the middle of September I talked with Franklin High School Head Coach Jason Tigert. The first question was, “How good could Jack [Medalie] be this year?”

“I think he is going to make a big-time jump,” said Coach Tigert. “This summer he averaged a double-double, really rebounding the basketball. His defense has significantly improved. He is shooting the ball extremely well. He has really made gains on the defensive end. He could always score. But now he is really adding to that. He is a for sure double-double threat guy.”

Any comparisons?

“Kadrian (K.J.) Johnson was a point guard that was big like that. A big guard that could handle. Jack can handle, but he is not a point. Hunter Wolcott at Dickson. Kind of similar. I have been lucky to have some really good players. Matt Thurman. Kinda. He scores a little more than Matt. But Matt also had multiple guys around him that were also scoring the basketball.”

Transfers

Christian Brown Christian Brown 6'7" | SF Franklin | 2025 State TN transferred this week from Battle Ground Academy to Franklin High. This movement is vitally important, as Franklin High needed some scoring punch and Brown is capable of scoring in bunches now and for years to come. He immediately joins Cortez Graham Cortez Graham 6'4" | PG Hillsboro | 2025 State TN (Hillsboro) as the best sophomore talents in the district. For this upcoming season Graham is likely going to be more statistically-dominating, but Brown’s long-term potential is scary for the district.

5'9" | PG | 2024 John Overton

Kyree Christian Kyree Christian 5'9" | PG John Overton | 2024 State TN is an anticipated starter for John Overton. He transferred last winter from Pope Prep, formerly Pope John Paul II, to John Overton. Head Coach John Hopson sees him as an important piece for the Bobcats.

Alex Pierz is not a transfer in to Centennial High, but he is new to the basketball program. Pierz considers himself a football player, much more than basketball, but the team will benefit from his inclusion in the practices especially. A willingness to bump and bang is necessary for the undermanned team to compete favorably this year against the top of the district.
