There were 17 teams in attendance and over 20 college coaches in the building, giving players a great chance for exposure.
Here, we take a look at part one of some of the top performers from the MD high school programs in attendance.
You can watch all of the games live on the CBG Live Network.
MJ Smith | 6’2” CG | Mount Zion 2023
Smith is set to have a big season in the Elite Prep League with this talented Mount Zion group, and the fact that he has the option to post grad and go to the 2024 class makes him very intriguing as a division one prospect. He’s an elite level shooter who has in the gym range and hit multiple threes from beyond the NBA line, his body has improved and he’s much more athletic making him a better finisher and defender and he’s showing improvement in the areas he needs to enough for coaches to start taking interest in him.
Dawson Civil | 5’10” PG | Mount Zion 2023
While the Mount Zion backcourt is very talented and Civil sometimes gets forgotten about, he showed he could be an x-factor this year with his ability to handle pressure and make plays on and off the ball. He broke down the defense and got in the lane to make plays for others off the bounce, he shot the ball well from deep and finished in the midrange and he showed a lot of grit on the defensive end guarding the ball and fighting for loose balls.
Levi Lawal | 6’7” PF | Mount Zion 2023
Lawal is a post grad forward that is very intriguing and should turn the heads of college coaches this year on the EPL with his mix of size, athleticism and toughness. While he’s still a little raw he has tons of room to improve when he gets to college, he has good hands and is very strong when he gets downhill and uses his body to bang with other bigs and the way he moves means he has a lot of upside to guard multiple positions on the defensive end.
Malachi Palmer | 6’5” PG | Mount Zion 2024
Palmer was one of the most impressive prospects in the event and is set to continue his blow up on the EPL this year, and if he plays the way he did this weekend he’ll continue to climb national rankings. He’s a big guard with good height and a strong frame that allows him to bump defenders and play through contact when he gets downhill, he’s a creative and crafty finisher around the rim who finishes well through traffic, he has a good feel for the game and makes plays for others and he brings it on both ends of the floor.
Brave Rutsindra | 6’11” C | Mount Zion 2024
Rutsidnra caught my eye early with his size and the intimidation factor that he has in the paint, and then he had some moments that really impressed and made you think he could develop into something special in the next few years. At 6’11” he’s a load in the paint and hard for anyone to match up with one-on-one, he has good hands and soft touch around the rim and he’s a paint clogger who impacts the game defensively just with his presence.
Rashad Samuels | 6’0” PG | Shabach Gold 2023
Samuels is the type of player that is easy to love as he plays with passion and gets after it on both ends of the floor while impacting the game in winning ways across the board. He’s a quick and strong guard who can touch the paint at will and makes plays for others when he does, he can score the ball in different ways off the bounce and he’s a dog of a defender who gets under ball handlers and forces turnovers.
