The 2023 recruiting cycle is entering its final stages with the season now on the horizon. Here's a detailed look at the top available small forwards in the senior class and where they might be headed to play their college ball.

[player_tooltip player_id='1022499' first='Bennett' last='Fried'] - La Crosse Central

Fried has the best upside on this list and one of the highest ceilings in the 2023 class...period. Still waiting for 6-foot-6 wing to break out, but he's shown a lot of flashes over the last two years. Part of Central's runner-up finish in Division 2, Fried averaged 7.4 ppg while deferring to a lot of seniors. A lanky, explosive prospect, Fried isn't even close to growing into his body and can score from all three levels, making him an exciting potential pickup at the D2 or D3 levels.

[player_tooltip player_id='1134930' first='Max' last='Lucey'] - Cuba City

Lucey has won a ton of games over his career at Cuba City. As a junior, the 6-foot-4 wing posted 14 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Arguably the best all-around wing on this list, Lucey can do a little bit of everything on the floor. He's got a high motor and shows up in ways that go beyond the box score. Last season, he also shot 50 percent from the floor, including 41 percent from 3-point range.

[player_tooltip player_id='1139642' first='Vincent' last='Vandervest'] - Bay Port

Vandervest is under-recruited right now. Plain and simple. The University of Mary, La Crosse, Stout, and Malone are the schools in contact right now. A fantastic athlete that brings a junkyard dog mentality to the floor, Vandervest held his own against high level competition all spring and summer. The 6-foot-4 wing has game-changing and momentum flipping athleticism as a dunker and shot blocker. He averaged 15 points and five rebounds per game as a junior while shooting 60 percent from the floor. Vandervest does most of his damage around the rim and doesn't take a lot of 3's, but when he does, they go down (13-of-22).

[player_tooltip player_id='981150' first='Seth' last='Miron'] - Kimberly

Miron should be one of the bigger breakout players in the state as a senior. Kimberly is reloading at the 6-foot-5 wing is the most experienced player on the Papermakers. Miron's been waiting in the wings for a while. Getting overlooked by a couple of really good college prospects, Miron still contributed 12 points per game as a junior. A solid all-around athlete that can play uptempo, score in isolation, stretch the floor from 3-point range, and guard multiple positions, still don't think Miron has even started to scratch the surface of his potential, given that he's a standout in multiple sports as well.

[player_tooltip player_id='981140' first='Dino' last='Cook'] - Kingdom Prep

Coming off an injury, Cook isn't back yet after missing most of the spring and summer. We'll keep him on the list now, but Cook plans on doing a post grad year out East. Princeton, Cal Baptist, Navy, Columbia, and Seattle are all expressing interest at this time. A budding prospect with a good amount of upside left, Cook is a plus-length wing that can space the floor and score in the mid-range, especially off-balance. Cook's shown some big flashes over the last year, able to finesse and acrobatically score in impressive ways. He's got the tools and want-to to be an outstanding defender at the next level as well. With his long wingspan and 6-foot-5 frame, could see Cook being a real weapon on that end of the floor and allow his team to get a lot of favorable matchups.

[player_tooltip player_id='1409364' first='Peter' last='Lattos'] - West Salem

Lattos got his name out there during West Salem's state tournament run. He doesn't get a lot of eyes on him over on the West side of the state and playing with an Illinois AAU club, but Latos can definitely play. Lattos has excellent positional size at 6-foot-7 and is a sneaky good athlete. As a junior, Lattos averaged 16 points, nine rebounds, and three assists per game. He shot 51 percent from the floor. Like his surprising athletic ability for his build, Lattos impresses in ways that go beyond just standing on the arc and shooting triples. He'll play with his back to the basket on the block and even has some eye-opening shake in the halfcourt as a shot creator. UW-Platteville, UW-Oshkosh, Wheaton, UW-La Crosse, Roosevelt, and Valley City State are all on Lattos going into his senior season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1039320' first='Brogan' last='McIntyre'] - Milton

Concordia-St. Paul, Winona and Quincy are all showing interest in McIntyre, who's also spoken with Milwaukee in the past. Maybe the best athlete on this list, certainly one of the top two overall athletes, McIntyre is a high-flying slashing wing that can also shoot the 3. As a junior, McIntyre averaged 14 points and eight rebounds per game alongside a Division 1 guard. Also a strong defender, McIntyre is definitely one of the better value pickups left.
