With 2 years of experience now under his belt, I expect Heard to be much more assertive as a paint scorer and get a lot more touches on the block. He’s got excellent ball skills for his size and is capable of attacking from the high post or outside so we could see some of that as well. On the defensive end, Heard provides rim protection and good rebounding. The combination of Heard’s solid 6’9 frame and well-rounded skillset make him one of the biggest sleepers in the 2024 in my opinion.
Trevian Callaway
Trevian Callaway
While a lot of the focus will begin on Columbia’s senior guards Rashad Headges Rashad Headges 6’1″ | CG Columbia | 2023 State GA and Mekhi Craft, I believe junior Trevian Callaway will sneak up on a lot of people. Callaway can score the ball at a high level and did so on several occasions over the summer. He’s got a really nice touch on his floater around the paint and pressures defenses by penetrating gaps. In the pick and roll, Callaway makes good reads and does a nice job of hitting his bigs on the roll. If opposing teams overlook Trevian Callaway’s ability to create offense, he will make a few of them pay this year.
Andrew Taylor
Andrew Taylor
Despite being just a freshman, Andrew Taylor could potentially come in and make an impact at Therrell right away. Taylor created a lot of buzz throughout the fall with some impressive camp outings. He’s undersized at 5’6 but what he lacks in size, he makes up for in toughness. Taylor’s not afraid to compete and forces opposing guards into a lot of turnovers. He’s a good handler and shoots it well from deep. As Taylor develops as a leader and floor general, he’ll see the kind of impact he could have at Therrell.
As Drew Charter says goodbye to a couple of great seniors, they’ll look to Cedric Taylor Cedric Taylor 6’6″ | SF Drew Charter | 2023 State GA to lead them into the 2022-2023 season. Taylor is certainly capable and should be in for a big year in this role. At 6’6, Cedric Taylor Cedric Taylor 6’6″ | SF Drew Charter | 2023 State GA has all the tools you look for in a college wing prospect. He can shoot it at a high level, handles it well, defends, and rebounds too. I think Taylor’s new role as a more assertive scoring option will open a lot of people’s eyes as to how talented this kid really is. He’s recently been offered by Anderson and Voorhees.
Chase Dupree Chase Dupree 6’3″ | CG Southwest Macon | 2026 State GA is another fantasic freshman that could possibly step in and make a role for himself right away. Dupree’s all-around development exceeds that of most 2026s and he already has the size to play varsity at 6’1. He sees the floor really well and id a gifted playmaker, especially in the open floor. Dupree is best in transition when he can push the pace and force defenders to make tough decisions. As Southwest moves on from last year’s senior-heavy squad, there will be minutes on the table so it’ll be interesting to see what kind of role Chase Dupree Chase Dupree 6’3″ | CG Southwest Macon | 2026 State GA settles into.
