This also allowed many prospects near the top of our rankings to move up at least one, if not more spots if they had impressive summer performances. In this article we’ll look at the top 5 stock risers, including the top new top three prospects who each moved up a spot after McKinley’s transfer.
Burgess takes over the top spot after sitting firmly at number two for multiple updates in a row. The big man out of Sycamore is one of the top C’s in the country and has received offers from almost 20 high major programs. Burgess played for the Adidas 3SSB 16 U champions on Indiana Elite and was dominant all summer on the 3SSB circuit, finishing second behind five star teammate Flory Bidunga in efficiency. Burgess also moves the ball quickly and is capable of making shots from the outside and is just comfortable on the perimeter. Everything that coaches want in a modern big man, it seems like Burgess has. And while I think he’s a center at the next level, Burgess played next to center Flory Bidunga for Indiana Elite and looked comfortable at that spot as well. Burgess is one of the bigger national sleepers in the 2024 class as he’s currently only ranked 120th by Rivals and unranked on every other national rankings website.
Powell continues to make a lot of noise after a breakout Spring with Wildcats Select 16 U before making the leap to 17 U for the July live periods. Powell is a smooth scorer from the wing position and has really added to his game since he first jumped on the scene as a freshman in the state semifinals. Powell scored 44 points in one of two losses for Indiana Elite’s 16 U squad and that got him his first high major offer and the rest started coming through left and right. Powell now has a group of high majors making him a priority as he heads into his Junior season with a new high school, Centerville with Gabe Cupps Gabe Cupps 6’1″ | PG Centerville | 2023 State #80 Nation OH and company.
McCulloch is the perfect example of a prospect where it benefits me to focus on one singular state to gain an edge over national scouts. McCulloch was a prospect that I’ve claimed to be a high major caliber player since the start of his Sophomore season. Missouri was his only high major offer until after the first July live period but once Michigan State offered McCulloch, the offers came fast. Butler, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio State, Cincinnati, Michigan and Iowa all offered in the next four weeks after the Spartans. McCulloch will be a dominant force as a Junior, looking to lead Lutheran East back to a state championship in 2022-23.
Theodosiou is a prospect who despite being Canadian has been on the Ohio radar since his freshman year when he came to the states to play at Western Reserve Academy. Theodosiou has great size for a guard and has proven the ability to shoot it from the outside at an elite level despite a funky release. Theodosiou picked up an offer from Dayton in April and VCU in August, his two most marquee offers so far. We’ll see if any high major programs get back involved after South Carolina was the first offer for Theodosiou as a freshman, Pittsburgh and a couple other high major programs have been in communication with Theodosiou recently as well.
McBride is the big riser in the 2024 rankings at the top, moving from just outside the top 10 to number 6 after an impressive Spring and Summer. McBride impressed for All Ohio Red during the spring live period and was impressive for Midwest Basketball Club 3SSB in July. McBride is a very impressive athlete and comes from a basketball family, his cousin Deuce was a Moeller standout before making it to the NBA. McBride took a big step from his Sophomore high school season until now, so expect his Junior year stats to be much improved. McBride added offers to Akron and Stony Brook in the summer after holding four heading into his Sophomore high school season.
