Continue ReadingI have been to this camp every year Sterling has thrown this event and every year it has gotten bigger and bigger. with over 300+ kids registered from all across the city and suburbs. Sterling and the S.A.L.U.T.E Foundation hosted a week-long camp from 9 am to 4 pm at Proviso West for ages 5 to 17 years of age boys and girls. they made sure each kid was fed and hydrated. while having them broken off into divisions of my age group. all six courts at Proviso were being occupied. I got a chance to check out some of the local talents from to west side of Chicago and the Western Suburbs.
Tobyus Banks 2027 Being one of the few 2027 kids playing up in the high school division Tobyus remained himself no matter who was in front of him. Getting to the basket and finishing through varsity players! The ability to create his own shot with range while dropping a number of crazy assists showed me that Tobyus has a lot to his games than just finishing at the basket. Coming off an East Vs West Showdown Championship in Bettendorf Iowa to end the AAU Season. Toybus is looking to have a big 8th-grade year to finish off his middle school career!
Gerald Walton 2027 Another 2027 Kid playing up and proving why he belongs up top. One of the bigger guards in his class had to use his IQ to play up in the high school division with players stronger and faster than him. Making the game look easy running the point guard position Gerald did not seem uncomfortable running the show. Learn Charter School will be fun to watch this year and will surprise a lot of middle schools across the City of Chicago.
LeBron Rogers 2027 In the middle school division there were quite a few top Guards in 2027 and 2028 registered in this camp and there was one kid who I saw give them all problems on the defensive end and that was LeBron. Picking up his assignment 94 every game for a week straight was something I have not seen from a kid his age in a while. Most camps are more geared towards offense but Lebron made sure to bring something different to the table. With a string on the ball, Lebron used his speed and ball handling to get around defenders and pick his spots on the court. Developing a confident jump shot has matured his game on the offensive end to go along with his lockdown defense.
Kamare Davis 2028 A perimeter defender who will guard any guard 94 feet and makes them uncomfortable. Kamare is a one of a kind guard. Adding the ability to create his own off the dribble makes it easy for him to pick where he wants to get on the court and finish through traffic. Adding to his range Kamara has grown the confidence to knock down the three-ball consistently.
Jakare Sims 2028 A very skilled and high-IQ Player with a number of counter moves that will freeze his defenders. The ability to use his body and take hits from defenders makes Jakare a great option to have as your primary ball handler. Knowing how to play off the ball makes Jakare a treat from deep if you leave him open.
Roosevelt Irving 2028 It has been quite some time since I have met a kid that can finish with both hands at the rim without thinking twice. The ability to use the jump hook over either shoulder is an added bonus to this young man’s game. Getting downhill after crashing the boards and making the right play showed me why Roosevelt made the defenders at camp look like cones.
Camren Smith 2026 Cam made running the show at the point guard position look easy. Using his body shield off defenders showed off the underrated strength this young man has. The ability to slide to the 2 guard and play off-ball makes him more dangerous because Cam is a knockdown shooter that will make you pay. I am looking forward to seeing how the Coaching Staff at Bolingbrook High School utilizes him in their offense.
Ashton Flowers 2026 A left-handed crafty 2-way playmaker that can finish at the rim with both and will make you pay for any bad decision you make on defense. A willing passer who loves to get his bigs involved makes the games easy for him and his teammates. Depaul Prep has a stub that should have a good freshman year and be a big piece to the puzzle for his team.
Rashaun Porter 2026 A High IQ skilled 6’6 lefty three-level glass cleaner who can put the ball on the ground to get to the basket and finish with both hands. Growing 2 Inches this summer and losing 15 pounds has turned Rashaun into a horse who can get up and down the court. With the ability to either pick and roll or pick and pop makes him hard to guard. Rashaun will be a big part of Depaul’s success for the next 4 Years.
