There was some high level talent on the floor, making it clear that the Bobcats can have lofty goals for next season. I’m going to take a look at 3 players that popped while I was watching on Thursday night.
This one should come as no surprise. Honestly, he looked like a player that should be sitting at the Mr. Basketball announcements at the end of the season. Taylor has magnificent body control. This allows him to shot fake, go under the defender, and draw contact. Taylor is comfortable attacking or shooting from anywhere on the floor. Any time a defender stepped off him on Thursday, Taylor made them pay with his jumper. He does a great job utilizing the glass from mid range and he has eyes all over the floor.
Johnson was my take home point of the day. This kid was good, I mean REALLY good. He can handle like a lead guard, but can score like a prolific 2 guard when playing off the ball. Johnson showed the ability to bury a triple from well behind the 3 point line and he was really hot with his jumper for most of the night. He’s not just a shooter though. Johnson was extremely active on the defensive glass, consistently sneaking in for rebounds and chasing the ball down. Johnson also showed that if you play him too tight on the outside, he can put the ball on the floor and finish with either hand. This young man simply belongs on a college basketball court next year.
O’Mara is a very high upside forward that showed exactly why scouts and coaches are excited about him. I liked and was impressed by his ability to play all over the floor. He can affect the game both in the paint and on the perimeter. O’Mara was a solid finisher on Thursday going hard at the rim and showing some touch on an up and under. You can tell that he’s worked on his handles and his jumper, making him a very dangerous matchup for Grand Blanc’s opponents.
