Saturday’s PrepHoops 250 Expo featured 60 of the best prospects in Tennessee. This was a great opportunity to see a bunch of guys as they head into their season. Take a look at the players that made up Team 6.
Team Medlock (Team #6) vs. Team Marshall Ashley Marshall Ashley 6'1" | PG Oakland | 2023 State TN (#1)
Opening the event in the secondary gym, Anthony Medlock Anthony Medlock 6'5" | SG Germantown | 2023 State TN torched his awakening opponents. Right away, Medlock scored 2-4 field goals with one assist and two blocks (7p). When Marshall checked him, Medlock and his team did nearly nothing. Ashley got up in his shirt, made a simple inbounds pass to Medlock frustratingly hard. So much so that Medlock looked longingly at the ref, as it to say, don’t let him deny so assertively. Finally, Medlock’s teammate just passed a different guard and the play unfolded meekly.
Anthony Medlock Anthony Medlock 6'5" | SG Germantown | 2023 State TN attempted to wrap up a planted Casey Williams Casey Williams 6'8" | PF Norcross | 2024 State GA , but the sloppy foul resulted in the only technical foul of the entire day. It looked a lot like a horse-collar foul. More lazy than malicious.
Jaxon Spicer Jaxon Spicer 5'11" | PG Stewarts Creek | 2023 State TN Spicer took shots in the first 2:05 of the first game. Spicer made one layup in the stretch. Took five shots in first three minutes. It continued. He was dangerously aggressive as a shooter. Spicer did hit some three-pointers in a later game. Perhaps he fell into that all-to-common pitfall for showcase events, where the player tries to do everything all of the time.
MJ Floyd MJ Floyd 6'2" | SG Martin Luther King | 2025 State TN hit a 3-pointer over Casey Williams Casey Williams 6'8" | PF Norcross | 2024 State GA . He was not jet quick, but fast enough. He sensed a trap on his blindside and dribbled away from it quickly. Reminded of a Andre Miller (NBA-retired).
Comfortable injecting body into the play defensively. Handle is ok, though he did not get enough touches on the ball. Medlock tended to run the offense through his hands. Hard-nosed player. Really good first-step quickness.
Later in the day, Medlock impressed in the other gym with a variety of slashes and jumpers. The success came against accomplished hoopers and young, overwhelmed defenders alike.
